P.M.H. Atwater’s Near-Death Experiences

P.M.H. Atwater, L.H.D., Ph.D. (Hon.) (pmhatwater.hypermart.net and www.amazon.com) survived three death events that produced three different near-death experiences in 1977. Visit Atwater’s Q & A Blog and her NDE News Blog. Sign up for her free online newsletter. She is one of the original researchers of the near-death phenomenon, having begun her work in 1978. Today, her contribution to the field of near-death studies is considered on par with those of Raymond Moody and Kenneth Ring. Her first two books, Coming Back to Life (2008) and Beyond the Light (2009), are considered the “Bibles” of the NDE. With the publication of Future Memory (2013), she has expanded her work into areas of brain development that call for a reconsideration of what is presently known about transformation consciousness. She has done extensive research into the aftereffects and the analysis of common elements of the NDE. Her research into children’s NDEs led to her writing the book Children of the New Millennium (1999). Her latest book, The Big Book of Near-Death Experiences (2014), is in my opinion the most comprehensive book on the subject of NDEs to date. She is an NDE expert and the author of many other wonderful books including: The Forever Angels (2019), The Animal Lights Series of Children’s Books (2019), A Manual for Developing Humans (2017), Dying to Know You (2014), Children of the Fifth World (2012), NDEs, The Rest of the Story (2011), I Died Three Times in 1977 (2011), Beyond the Indigo Children (2005), We Live Forever (2004), The New Children and NDEs (2003), and Goddess Runes (1996).The following are P.M.H. Atwater’s insights into the NDE from her book, Beyond the Light.

6. The Four Types of NDEs

1. What It Feels Like To Die

Any pain to be suffered comes first. Instinctively you fight to live. That is automatic.

It is inconceivable to the conscious mind that any other reality could possibly exist beside the Earth-world of matter bounded by time and space. We are used to it. We have been trained since birth to live and thrive in it. We know ourselves to be ourselves by the external stimuli we receive. Life tells us who we are and we accept its telling. That, too, is automatic and to be expected.

Your body goes limp. Your heart stops. No more air flows in or out. You lose sight, feeling and movement – although the ability to hear goes last. Identity ceases. The “you” that you once were becomes only a memory.

There is no pain at the moment of death. Only peaceful silence … calm … quiet. But you still exist. It is easy not to breathe. In fact, it is easier, more comfortable, and infinitely more natural not to breathe than to breathe.

The biggest surprise for most people in dying is to realize that dying does not end life. Whether darkness or light comes next, or some kind of event, be it positive, negative, or somewhere in between, expected or unexpected, the biggest surprise of all is to realize you are still you.

You can still think, you can still remember, you can still see, hear, move, reason, wonder, feel, question, and tell jokes – if you wish.

You are still alive, very much alive. Actually, you’re more alive after death than at any time since you were last born. Only the way of all this is different; different because you no longer wear a dense body to filter and amplify the various sensations you had once regarded as the only valid indicators of what constitutes life. You had always been taught one has to wear a body to live.

If you expect to die when you die you will be disappointed.

The only thing dying does is help you release, slough off, and discard the “jacket” you once wore (more commonly referred to as a body). When you die you lose your body. That’s all there is to it. Nothing else is lost.

You are not your body. It is just something you wear for a while, because living in the Earth realm is infinitely more meaningful and more involved if you are encased in its trappings and subject to its rules.

2. What Death Is

There is a step-up of energy at the moment of death, an increase in speed as if you are suddenly vibrating faster than before.

Using radio as an analogy, this speed-up is comparable to having lived all your life at a certain radio frequency when all of a sudden someone or something comes along and flips the dial. That flip shifts you to different frequency. The original frequency where you once existed is still there. It did not change. Everything is still just the same as it was. Only you changed, only you speeded up to allow entry into the next radio frequency on the dial.

As is true with all radios and radio stations, there can be bleed-overs or distortions of transmission signals due to interference patterns. These can allow or force frequencies to coexist or co-mingle for indefinite periods of time. Normally, most shifts up the dial are fast and efficient; but, occasionally, one can run into interference, perhaps from a strong emotion, a sense of duty, or a need to fulfill a vow, or keep a promise.

This interference could allow coexistence of frequencies for a few seconds, days, or even years (perhaps explaining hauntings); but, sooner or later, eventually, every given vibrational frequency will seek out or be nudged to where it belongs.

You fit your particular spot on the dial by your speed of vibration. You cannot coexist forever where you do not belong.

Who can say how many spots there are on the dial or how many frequencies there are to inhabit? No one knows.

You shift frequencies in dying. You switch over to life on another wavelength. You are still a spot on the dial but you move up or down a notch or two.

You don’t die when you die. You shift your consciousness and speed of vibration.

3. What Existence Is

Time and space, as we know them, exist only on the Earth realm. When you leave the Earth realm, you leave such constraints.

There are realms and dimensions of existence without number, ranging from the slower, more dense vibrations of form to higher, finer streams of non-energetic currents. And there is more beyond that, realities that cannot be measured or described in the convenience of mathematics or mind-play.

Hell refers to levels of negative thought-forms that reside in close proximity to the Earth realm. It is where we go to work out, or remain within, our hang-ups, addictions, fears, guilt, angers, rage, regrets, self-pity, arrogance, or whatever else blocks us from the power of our own light. We stay in hell (and there are many divisions to this vibratory level) for however long best serves our development. There is no condemnation here, only the outworking of our own misjudgments, mistakes, misalignments, or misappropriations (what some people call sin). In hell, we have the opportunity to either revel in our folly or come to grips with the reality of consequences – that every action has a reaction, what is inflicted on another can be returned in kind. We experience the “flip side” of our despair or our demands, “living through” the extremes of whatever we dread. This is not a “punishment for our sins” but a confrontation with any distortion of our sense of values and priorities. We do not leave until we have changed our attitudes and perceptions.

Heaven is a term used to describe levels of positive thought-forms that reside in close proximity to the Earth realm. It is where we go to recognize or enjoy our worth, talents, abilities, joys, courage, generosity, caring, empathy, giving-ness, virtue, cheer, diligence, thoughtfulness, patience, loving kindness, or whatever else reveals the power of our own light. We stay in heaven (and there are many divisions to this vibratory level) for however long best serves our development. There is a sense of benefit here, as if one has found one’s true home and all is well (what some people call “recess”, or a time of rewards). In heaven, we have the opportunity to assess our progress as a soul, to evaluate pros and cons and outcomes, to remember all truths including that of our real identity. We experience the glory of love and the power of forgiveness.

This is not an end point, but, rather, the realization of our purpose in creation’s story, how we fit, and what possibilities for future growth and learning exist. We do not leave until we are ready for our next advancement either in the world of form or beyond it.

No one knows how vast creation is … only that it has always been and will always be. Shapes and embodiments change and alter, substance is recycled, but existence exists, as does energy.

Existence is life, never ending and ongoing, forever and ever eternal. Yet its only true movement (without the distortion time and space give) is expansion and contraction, as if the existence that exists were capable of breathing. What appears as a progression, a time-line of starts and stops and ever-changing variations, is but an overleaf, an illusion, that helps us to focus on whatever spot on the dial we currently inhabit so we will accomplish what we set out to do (or at least have an opportunity to), and not be distracted by The Truth that undergirds reality.

Using television as an analogy, the picture we enjoy seeing, the progression of a storyline with characters acting out a script, is but a trick of perception. What exists, what is really there, is quite literally one electron at a time (with black and white, and three at a time with color) fired from the back of the television tube to the screen to be illuminated once it hits the screen as a tiny dot. The continuous barrage of electrons-turned-into-dots creates the appearance of images, as scanning lines roll from top to bottom separating information coming in (new dots) from information fading out (old dots). You adjust the vertical hold on your set, not to remove strange bars appearing in the picture, but to place all screen activity within the range of your own perceptual preference. A television picture tube is nothing more than a “gun” that fires electrons at a screen. Your mind connects the electron dots into the picture images you think you see, while it totally ignores the true reality of what actually undergirds the operation. The way television operates, at least in our daily experience of it, is an illusion.

Existence is a lot like television. What exists, what really exists, can’t be fathomed by how it appears to operate or what it seems to be.

4. The Realness of God

God is.

God is the one presence, the one power, the one force and source of all. There are no competitors to God, no reality existent outside of God. God is omnipotent (all powerful), omniscient (all knowing), and omnipresent (present everywhere). There is no place where God is not, simply because nothing exists without God.

God is neither a man nor a woman nor a thing.

God is no one’s father or mother or benefactor. These terms are used only to help us understand relationships – ours to God – not to establish a more human type of parentage. We use such terms as a matter of convenience or because it is comforting to do so. We call ourselves children of God because we do not know what else to call ourselves, and it seems as good a term as any to use. We are made in the image of God, not in the sense of physical appearance, but with respect to the power of our souls and the potential of our minds. God is the Creator; we are co-creators. It would be more appropriate and more in line with Truth, if we called ourselves extensions of God or, perhaps, thoughts in the Mind of God. It would even be appropriate to use another name for God, like The Force, The One, The All, The Is-ness, The One Mind, The Source, or whatever conveys that sense of deity that is without limitation or boundary, beyond what can be comprehended.

While God is more than any name, protocol, hierarchy, concept, or grandiosity could describe or define; God truly is as near as our next breath – as close as our next thought. We are part of God and existent with God. A belief in separation, that we could possibly exist and have our being apart from God, is the only real sin. This belief is of our own making. God has not decreed separation; this we did ourselves by our own perception that somehow, some way, we could transcend That Which Cannot Be Transcended.

God is not dependent on our belief, for our belief or disbelief in God does not affect God – only us.

God is not a member of any church or religion. It is the churches and the religions that are members within the vastness and the glory that is God. There is no one religion just as there is no “chosen” people or person, nor any single way of regarding what cannot be fully comprehended. We are all “sons of God” in the sense that we are all souls of God’s creation, without gender, without form, without nationality, complete and whole and perfect as we explore the never-endingness of God’s wonderment. A spark from the essence of All God Is resides in each and every one of us has an unbreakable connection, that thread or cord that ensures we remain a part of That Which We Could Never Leave.

The splendorous joy of recognizing and acknowledging our special-ness, our greatness, as creations of God and as co-creators with God, is akin to being engulfed by overwhelming floodtides of God’s Glorious Love.

5. The Big Picture

There is no sense of “crime and punishment” in God’s Light, only the clear, complete, and total knowing that you are loved unconditionally and fully – right now and forever more.

Truth in this light, God’s Light, is so powerful and so piercing, there is no way you could lie, exaggerate, avoid, or deny what you have done with God’s gift to you, the gift of an embodied life in the Earth realm replete with abundant opportunities to learn and develop and grow – be the best that you can be. This gift, the Earth life God gives us, comes with a catch: We are to give the gift back.

We cannot keep the life we have on the Earth realm, not our possessions or attachments or relationships. What we can keep is our memories and our feelings of what we have integrated into our heart of hearts from the experience of being here, plus the love we have shared with others. This that we can keep enriches God’s experience of us as well as enriching our experience of ourselves and one another. How joyful this is depends on what we did about who we are.

Each gain or loss anyone makes affects everyone else to some degree. That’s because we are connected, somehow, as sparks from the Mind of God. Everything created either has a soul (independent power mass) or is capable of being ensouled (from out of the group power mass). Because human forms contain larger portions of a soul mass than many other types of form, they represent opportunities of greater diversity, challenge, and involvement. Yet even animals, minerals, plants, and planets, enfold degrees of ensoulment replete with intelligence, feeling, and volition. Density of structure or shape may seem to deny this, but the creative fire is ever-present, nonetheless.

All souls are holy in God’s Light, and all souls are loved.

And all souls have a purpose for their existence and a reason for being who or what they are.

Whatever form a soul empowers “fits” in creation’s story, for each soul has a job to do, a position to fill in the greater scheme of things.

And all souls evolve. Nothing stays as it is because nothing is static, regardless of how “otherwise” conditions may appear to be.

Evolution is not restricted to linear progression. It only seems so.

Thus, the drama of creation’s story is unbounded – neither limited by our perception of it, nor by our ability or lack of ability to comprehend it. This drama is as stupendous as it is terrifying, as awesome as it is wonderful, as miraculous as it is mysterious, as beautiful as it is the ultimate act of all-consuming love. To witness even a glimpse of such glory, to know the Real Truth of it, leaves a mark so deep and so profound you are forever uplifted and transformed.

You return from your NDE knowing we affect each other because we are all part of each other, and that we affect all parts of creation because all parts of creation interweave and interrelate with all other parts. Any sense of aloneness or separation dissolves in the Light of such knowing.

We each matter. And we are each challenged to “wake up” and realize that we matter. Once we so awaken, our task is to act accordingly.

To know is not enough. We must express that knowing. How we do that is up to us.

Although we are each connected to the other and to all others, we are individual in our choices, in the power of our will, and in the product or result or consequence of our ever having breathed a breath in the Earth realm. The responsibility we have for this totality of our being-ness is as freeing and exciting as it is humbling. And it represents high adventure.

The greatest fear we have in living out our Earth life is not what might happen to us, but what might be expected from us if we recognized who we are.

6. The Four Types of NDEs

P.M.H. Atwater has identified four distinctive types of NDEs. She discovered elements similar to those described by Moody and Ring but different patterning from what was billed as the classical version; each pattern type was accompanied by a subtle psychological profile suggestive of other forces that might be present. These four types have consistently held up throughout two decades of interviews, observations, and analysis regardless of a person’s age, education, gender, culture, or religion. In her book, Beyond the Light, P.M.H. Atwater used separate chapters to discuss each of the four types. Below is a shorter rendition of the scenario patterns.

a. Initial Experience (Sometimes referred to as the “nonexperience”)

Involves elements such as a loving nothingness, the living dark, a friendly voice, or a brief out-of-body episode. Usually experienced by those who seem to need the least amount of evidence for proof of survival, or who need the least amount of shakeup in their life at that point in time. Often, this becomes a “seed” experience or an introduction to other ways of perceiving and recognizing reality. Incident rate: 76% with child experiencers, 20% with adult experiencers.

b. Unpleasant or Hell-like Experience (Inner cleansing and self-confrontation)

Encounter with a threatening void or stark limbo or hellish purgatory, or scenes of a startling and unexpected indifference, even “hauntings” from one’s own past. Usually experienced by those who seem to have deeply suppressed or repressed guilt, fears, and angers and/or those who expect some kind of punishment or discomfort after death. Incident rate: 3% with child experiencers, 15% with adult experiencers.

c. Pleasant or Heaven-like Experience (Reassurance and self-validation)

Heaven-like scenarios of loving family reunions with those who have died previously, reassuring religious figures or light beings, validation that life counts, affirmative and inspiring dialogue. Usually experienced by those who most need to know how loved they are and how important life is and how every effort has a purpose in the overall scheme of things. Incident rate: 19% with child experiencers, 47% with adult experiencers.

d. Transcendent Experience (Expansive revelations, alternate realities)

Exposure to otherworldly dimensions and scenes beyond the individual’s frame of reference; sometimes includes revelations of greater truths. Seldom personal in content. Usually experienced by those who are ready for a mind-stretching challenge and/or individuals who are more apt to utilize (to whatever degree) the truths that are revealed to them. Incident rate: 2% with child experiencers, 18% with adult experiencers.

Note: P.M.H. Atwater has noticed that all four types can occur at the same time during an NDE, can exist in varying combinations, or can spread out across a series of episodes for a particular individual. Generally speaking, however, each represents a distinctive type of experience occurring but once to a given person.

Reinee Pasarow’s Near-Death Experience

There is much to say about the Baha’i faith’s view of life after death. One particular experiencer was the late Reinee Pasarow (1950-2020). In May 1966, 16-year-old Reinee became unconscious following an allergic food reaction and had one of the most transcendental NDEs ever documented. Reinee recounted her wonderful NDE in a YouTube video which I highly recommend viewing. She also recounted her NDE testimony in her book entitled Answers from Heaven: The Near-Death Experiences of Reinee Pasarow. Her NDE is exceptional for many reasons. One reason is that she instantaneously traveled back into time to witness the entire evolution and history of the human race. She learned how humanity is currently at a turning point, that it must deal with all the obstacles to unity before a new era of universal peace will come. She saw the future of our planet as a world populated with beings of light. Reinee was interviewed repeatedly by the news media including major television networks. She exhibited the humanitarian aftereffects that many NDErs have. She was a successful business woman and founded or directed several charitable organizations and projects. Before her NDE, as a child, Reinee was very spiritual and became attracted to the Bahá’í faith. The following is Reinee Pasarow’s NDE testimony in her own words.

1. From Out-of-Body Experience To An Orb of Light

I only became aware when I heard the very loud sound of the fire engines arriving. I heard my best friend from elementary school calling to me. She was calling, “Reinee, don’t die, don’t die Reinee.”

I heard this and it seemed as if it was in a foreign language to me. I finally computed the meaning of this and realized that my life was in danger. I had an obligation to fight for my life because of my mother and my friend, because she had such terror in her voice that it cut through to my heart.

I tried to fight for my life, but the battle became overwhelming. At this point I just surrendered myself, my soul, to the power that brings us all into existence and that gives us all life. I knew that this was the source of all life and the way of all things. I surrendered to that and I entered a state of peacefulness.

Then, just like that (clapping her hands), I became a ball of light or energy in the midst of this crowd that was circling a body. I became massively aware, unlike any awareness I had had during physical existence. I was not really aware of myself. I was aware of everyone around me. I was aware of my mother and my neighbors, and my friends and the firemen and what they were thinking and what they were feeling and what they were hoping and what they were praying. This was such a pummeling input of emotion and information that I was all at once overwhelmed and confused, and rather disoriented.

I followed their attention to something on the sidewalk and I looked at a body on the sidewalk. I looked at the curve of the wrist bone and I recognized it. I remember looking at it and thinking, “That looks so much like my wrist bone.”

And then I became aware that the thing on the sidewalk, that thing that suddenly became a piece of meat to me, was what I had identified as myself before, but had no connection with it other than that I had been with it for a very long time. But it had nothing to do with me because suddenly, I was more of a person than I had ever been before. I was more conscious than I could ever be. I was free of the limitations of being a physical being.

I looked at my body and I was repulsed with the grief and the tumult around it and with the very idea that I had ever considered something physical to be my reality, to be a human reality.

And with that (taps the table) again like this, I was bumped way up, up above some light wires. From that point I could watch everyone beneath me, but I was not as closely associated with them. I was completely feeling everything they were feeling.

I watched my mother and a boy come out of the house and up the hill which I could not have seen physically. I was very sad for my mother. I was very sad for my friend who kept calling me. And I was very sad for the child who had come out of the house. I was very sad that he would think I was dead. So my concern was for them. I spent my time observing them and calling to them – calling to them that everything was as it should be, that everything was fine, that I was free, that it was wonderful, that I loved them and that they loved me and that the bond, unlike physical bonds, would never be destroyed. I tried to communicate this to them over and over again and I realized that I had no mouth. I had no body. They could not hear what I was saying to them. I would have to leave them in the same hands I had left myself in the process of dying. With that I turned away, just sort of like a ball, just turned away.”

2. A Unified Macroscopic and Microscopic View of the World

My attention turned away lovingly but knowing that there was nothing I could do. I turned away from them and began to pull up. I became aware, as if I were a camera on a space ship or something, of our place – my particular little street and then my particular little town. I kept pulling up and up and up to a point where I could observe the whole Earth. This was wonderful!

The Earth was alive and the Earth was singing. It was singing a single song and in that song everyone had a voice. Every human being had a very important note to add to this precious song of the Earth. It was a song of love and every living being had something to add to the song of Earth. Every one of these essences was very much connected. I was seeing it not like we see normally. I was seeing it both from a macroscopic – from the point of view of the spaceship – and from a microscopic vantage point. Microscopic in that I could see an amoeba in the ocean was connected to the song of the heart of all humanity; and that this world was responding to the song in our hearts in a miraculous, unified, and beautiful way. I too began too sing. I was so overcome with joy. It wasn’t a song obviously with the mouth. I had no mouth. I had no body. I simply was. I became a part of that song and very full of joy that I could have something to contribute to this sacred beauty of our Earth and of all people.

I became very aware that we as people have a unique influence on the world even if we are not actively doing something. We influence this planet by our state of being. We influence this planet very positively if we are filled with love and respect for others or negatively if our hearts are negative.

3. Meeting Her Deceased Uncle at the End of the Tunnel

At this point I became aware that there was a light calling me from somewhere else and I entered what people speak of as the tunnel. I will speak of it as that although I did not quite perceive it as a tunnel. It was a transition place where I became aware of other beings who seemed to be rather disoriented, rather confused and lost and some of these beings were moving through to their home. I simply wanted to go home. I moved through this place and I became aware that I was not moving like we move physically. When we move physically we have an intent, we have a goal, and we move step by step to that goal. But what moved me through this place was love. It was the love of God and the love all things sacred and all things beautiful and all things just. I could go on and on and on but this was what propelled me on. It was my connection and my affection for God.

As I came to the end of this place, I wondered if I would be alone, and just like that I was with my uncle. It was like we were two lights that were put together – one red and one blue that made purple light. I was aware of things about him that I had never been aware of in life. I didn’t spend much time with him and I didn’t know him well. He lived in the south and I lived in California. But it was a very joyful reunion and I became aware that he was concerned that I was there because he communicated to me instantaneously that my mother could not stand the loss of a child. He was confused, yet he knew that everything was as it should be.

From that point I became very attracted to the light and this attraction was like an irresistible magnet. I loved that light. I loved what was pulling me home.

4. Diving Into the Sea of the Light of Love

I moved past my uncle into what I can best define as a sea of light. It was as if every atom in the universe had been electrified with color and light and sound, but more than that, with totally unconditional love. It was a welcoming to me. I dove into this ocean and with each moment, I felt more rapture and more joy and more just absolutely unspeakable love. As I moved through this sea, I became aware that I was moving to the center of the sea of light which I perceived, how can I say this, as a gnat flying into the sun. That is the perspective that I had for this sea of light.

Then in a instant, again like a clap, I entered into this light and I became one with this light. In this light, I was no longer an individual, no longer a person, but simply a part of this light. I became like the phoenix. I was destroyed. It was the most blissful, the most excruciatingly beautiful moment that I could imagine. It seemed to me to be the apex of all existence. It was the point where one was no more. One was simply a part of this light.

After being in this state for what seemed to be a time beyond time, I was gathered again together like sands from the shore as an individual and I was called to account for my deeds.

5. Having a Life Review With the Being of Light

Reinee then described an encounter with a “Being of Light” who showed her various elements of her past life and reviewed them with her. She talked in general terms about how little acts of kindness were far and away more important than the activities we usually give so much value to in normal life. She described how the most positive thing she did was to give special attention to a not so lovable boy at a summer camp so that he would know he was loved. During her life review, she said this act of kindness was more important from her viewpoint of expanded awareness than if she had been president of the United States or the queen of England. After her life review, Reinee wondered about the destiny of the human race. With that thought, she was shown the evolution and history of humanity as well as its probable future. (This will be discussed later in this article.) After this, the level of love Reinee was receiving from the Being of Light had reached its pinnacle and she found herself on the other side of the light. She could then sense, in a more physical manner, a Kingdom of Light filled with people whom she knew and loved dearly. They were waiting for her and welcoming her as in a homecoming. These people were very much involved with humanity on Earth from this Kingdom of Light. Reinee saw a man at the edge of this Kingdom holding out his hand and welcoming her home. She again became very rapturous at this and began to move toward him. But then the Light spoke and told her, “It is not time” which prevented her from moving further forward. She then found herself returning to the physical world.

6. Returning To the Physical World of Suffering and Death

I was catapulted back down what I perceived to be a tunnel. This time it was down a rainbow tunnel of light, sound and vibrational frequency of love. With a terribly hard crash, I became aware of the scene I had left earlier – the fire trucks, and now an ambulance. There were men who were picking up my body and loading it into the ambulance. I was in a state of complete grief. I felt that I had become Eve and was cast out of the Garden of Eden.

As I was descending down this tunnel, my heart was already attached to my home beyond. I was begging not to leave. I crashed down into this realm of existence and was suddenly confused by time and space. It was as if I had never existed physically. I was suddenly disoriented. My concern was for my mother, because she was by herself and she was losing a sixteen year old daughter. She knew that this was happening because the ambulance attendant looked at the driver in front and said, “DOA. DOA,” which means of course dead on arrival. The driver turned off the siren and slowed down the ambulance. Before, he had been driving in a very reckless manner.

We were coming out of the mountains. As we did that, my concern was for the pain of my mother. I simple wanted to comfort her and to wrap my soul around her. To assuage the loss of a daughter, the loss of a child, I found myself simply praying for her.

I followed the ambulance to the hospital and I watched as my body was unloaded. My mother followed the gurney into the emergency room. I watched as the first doctor went to work on me. I wasn’t particularly interested in the first doctor because the first doctor had, that day, been through motorcycle accidents coming out of the mountains. He had been through a very long day and he was not concerned with someone who had been brought in dead on arrival. He had no connection with me. He didn’t care and had no affection. So I had no interest in watching what he did because my interest was based on affection and love.

I then left the emergency room and was above my mother and some friends who had followed her into the other room. I again tried to communicate with them. I tried to let them know that, “This is a very joyous occasion. I am dead on arrival. Hopefully all would go well. They are never going to be able to revive me. I was going to be dead now. Death had become life to me. Death was not something to be frightened of, but something to look forward to.”

7. Reinee’s Verified Perception In the Emergency Room

What happened then was the first doctor pronounced me dead and was sending my body off to the morgue. My own personal physician, who was a country doctor and a very gruff man, stormed into the emergency room in a tuxedo with his black bag. He looked at the nurse on the phone who was calling the morgue, and looked at the doctor who was washing his hands, and looked at my covered body and said, “What the hell happened here? Where is the patient?”

They said, “She was dead on arrival.”

He said, “The hell she was.”

He proceeded to scream at the other nurse who was sort of standing off in the corner, “I want injections of adrenaline. Bring them to me immediately and come over here and assist me.”

He began to go to work on my body. He began to beat on the chest and began to shock. I was simply terrified by this turn of events and disgusted that they would treat a body so brutally.

All of a sudden I sort of became protective towards my body, even though I wanted nothing to do with it. I began to be protective. They could at least be nice about it. But they were beating on my chest and shocking my body, but I was up in the corner of the emergency room accompanied by other essences who were keeping me contained in that emergency room.

Reinee goes on to describe how she finally returned to her body as a result of her doctor’s last effort to revive her. When she was revived, she couldn’t understand or accept that she had returned to the physical world which was so horrible compared to the light and love she experienced in heaven. She cried about this and immediately began thinking about suicide. The next day, her doctor burst into Reinee’s hospital room swearing at her and asked her, “What the hell did you do to yourself?” In tears, Reinee angrily told her doctor that she was dead and that he had no right to bring her back. At this, her doctor was shocked and stood back to give her a long discerning look. He told her, “You were not dead because you’re not dead now.”

Reinee continued crying and told him about some of what she experienced while in heaven. But this only made her doctor became concerned about her mental state and had a psychiatrist come and talk to her. When the psychiatrist came to visit Reinee, the psychiatrist sat down and told Reinee she was not leaving until Reinee convinced her she was not crazy for not wanting to live. Reinee explained to her there were no words to describe what she had experienced. But then it occurred to Reinee that her doctor would probably have her committed to a psych ward unless she could convince the psychiatrist she wasn’t crazy. So she told the psychiatrist about her NDE and about heaven and love she experienced. However, the psychiatrist wanted to know details about what she claimed transpired in the emergency room. So Reinee told her everything that happened there. The psychiatrist then said to Reinee she was going to investigate to see if what Reinee had told her was true.

About two or three hours later, the psychiatrist returned. Reinee noticed how the psychiatrist appeared to be “white as a sheet.” The psychiatrist looked at her and told her she was right: she was dead. Everything Reinee explained to her about what happened in the E.R. did indeed occur. There was a blond nurse. There was a dark-haired nurse about forty-years old. There was a young doctor who was exhausted from treating people involved in a motorcycle accident. There was no cardiologist on duty. And her doctor did want to inject adrenaline directly into her heart but decided not to. The psychiatrist told Reinee, “You’re right. You’re not crazy.”

Reinee then asked her if there was anything she could do to help her. Her psychiatrist replied that psychiatry had nothing to offer to help her and she recommended that Reinee see her clergy about it. Reinee replied that she just couldn’t do that. The psychiatrist then advised that Reinee never talk about her experience again to anyone – even to those people she knows.

8. Humanity’s Future – From Catastrophe to Heaven on Earth

After her life review, Reinee wondered about the destiny of the human race; and with that thought, she was shown the evolution and history of humanity as well as its probable future.

She felt the brutish and self-centered level of existence of the Neanderthals, to the conniving politicality of the Romans who thought they were all powerful, and the great surge of hope surrounding the scientific revolution of the Renaissance. She saw that humanity is now on the precipice of the greatest choice and greatest step of our development and evolution that has ever occurred in human history. Every individual must make the choice to establish unity, peace and harmony.

Reinee was also shown catastrophic Earth changes which were the result of human conflict on this planet suggesting the Earth and everything in it is a single giant organism. She described these Earth changes as follows:

“Simultaneously with this wonderful process there was great chaos and destruction going on in the world. There was a great breakdown in all of our institutions and systems: governmental, educational, religious, intellectual and scientific. The breakdown was such that society was reduced to bands of people acting like wolves who were filled with hatred, selfishness and darkness.”

Reinee also saw there was a small group of people who were identified as “The Just” who were striving to bring about a new civilization and a new creation of peace and bring about the great spiritual development humanity needs at this time. These people were not powerful or wealthy and were not involved in tremendous institutions. They were young and struggling. And in the process of their struggling, they were trying to bring about this spiritual development and a new civilization during the time of these Earth changes:

“There was a great sense of polarization of the people along racial and religious lines. It came to the point where every religion was fighting every other religion except for the religion of ‘The Just.'”

Reinee was also shown “the seat” of the “Universal House of Justice” which had not yet been built. She saw this building exactly as it was built later and was shown its location. She saw this magnificent building in a land she recognized as “old yet new” on the coast of the Mediterranean sea. Reinee later discovered a distinguished Jewish author named Theodor Herzl who in 1902 wrote a novel about Israel called “The Old New Land.” In the 1980’s, Reinee traveled there and saw the building on the Mediterranean coast built on Mount Carmel, in Israel, on the Mediterranean coast exactly as she saw in her vision. The white marble building in Israel on Mount Carmel is called the “Universal House of Justice.” According to Reinee, The Just are receiving teachings and guidance there that is the hope for humanity.

Reinee explains why these Earth changes will take place:

“The vision of the future I received during my near death experience was one of tremendous upheaval in the world as a result of our general ignorance of ‘true’ reality. I was informed that humanity was breaking the laws of the universe, and as a result of this would suffer. This suffering was not due to the vengeance of an indignant God, but rather like the pain one might suffer as a result of arrogantly defying the law of gravity. It was to be an inevitable educational cleansing of the Earth that would creep up upon its inhabitants, who would try to hide blindly in the institutions of law, science, and religion. Humanity, I was told, was being consumed by the cancers of arrogance, materialism, racism, chauvinism, and separatist thinking. I saw sense turning to nonsense, and calamity, in the end, turning to providence.”

Reinee saw that these Earth changes would ultimately lead to the establishment of God’s Kingdom of Heaven on Earth. She states:

“At the end of this general period of transition, humanity was to be ‘born anew,’ with a new sense of his place in the universe. The birth process, however, as in all the kingdoms, was exquisitely painful. Humanity would emerge humbled yet educated, peaceful, and, at last, unified.”

Since her NDE, Reinee has never been the same again. The events she participated in there and the things she saw and sensed have all been reported by other NDErs — something she did not know at the time and would learn only in her adult reading.

“Every particle of my being had been shaken. Every belief, every value and every goal had to be re-evaluated after my luminous journey. The near-death experience was for me a great liberation – a rebirth – and its effects still can be felt in my daily life. Most of all, as a result of the experience, never again could I fear death. Never again could I look upon life as being anything less than a divine gift that transcends the limits of this physical realm.”

After her NDE, Reinee insisted that her mother allow her to become a Bahá’í. Up until this time, her mother (a Christian) forbid her to be a Bahá’í. Reinee’s request to become a Bahá’í met her mother’s approval. Later, Reinee’s mother also became a Bahá’í.

According to Reinee, the identity of “The Just” were those of the Bahá’í faith. “Bahá’í” means “follower of Baha”, “follower of the light,” “follower of the glory of justice.” Baha’u’llah taught frequently of justice.

Reinee says the purpose of the Bahá’í revelation is to establish unity. Every manifestation from God comes for a purpose to fulfill and teach humanity for spiritual development. The essence of all revelations from God to humanity is love. The theme of the Bahá’í revelation is justice. The Just were working towards the unity of mankind instead of focusing on the divisions like many countries and religions do. She described seeing groups of individuals that she “knew as well as her own parents” who were living and working in other non-physical worlds.

The Bahá’ís’ view of life after death corresponds with NDE testimonies. This world is really a transitory phase – like a period of gestation. The challenge for us is to make spiritual choices in a physical life. Death is really a messenger of joy for human beings to enter into the light. Love is the secret of God’s holy dispensation, the manifestation of the “All Merciful”, the fountain of all spiritual outpourings. Love is heaven’s kindly light. The Holy Spirit’s eternal breath vivifies the human soul. Love is the cause of God’s revelation to man – the vital bond inherent in accordance with the divine creation in the reality of things. Love is the one means that ensures true felicity (i.e., intense happiness) both in this world and in the next. Love is the light that guides in the darkness. Love is the living link that unites God with man to ensure the progress of every illuminated soul. Love is the most great law that rules mighty in heaven – the unique power that binds together the diverse elements of this material world – the supreme magnetic force that directed the movements of the spheres in the celestial realms. Love reveals with unfailing and limitless power the mysteries latent in the universe. Love is the spirit of life unto the adoring spirit of mankind – the establisher of true civilization in the mortal world and the shedder of imperishable glory upon every high aiming race and nation.

Tiffany Snow’s Near-Death Experience

Tiffany Snow (www.TiffanySnow.com) came from a very strict religious background and never believed in the supernatural. But that all changed when a sudden and profound NDE brought her before God in heaven where she was given knowledge and love beyond understanding. Tiffany says, “The best thing that happened in my life was almost losing it.” At the time, Tiffany was a successful songwriter and record producer in Nashville when lightning struck her and almost took her life. It resulted in a profound NDE where she received the gifts of healing and psychic ability. She discovered her mission in life is to heal, teach, and help others manifest their God-given gifts with power and love in their own lives.

Tiffany sees the lightning strike that almost killed her as divine intervention because of the divine gifts she received which she uses to help others. She has used her psychic gifts in working with the FBI regarding the September 11 terrorist attacks. Her psychic abilities were also utilized for a nationally publicized child abduction case. Today she serves as an ordained minister, a Divine Healing practitioner (Christian prayer combined with hands-on-healing), a Reiki Master, teacher, and author of three books, “Forward From the Mind: Distant Healing, Bilocation, Medical Intuition & Prayer in a Quantum World“, “Psychic Gifts in the Christian Life – Tools to Connect” and “The Power of Divine: A Healer’s Guide – Tapping Into The Miracle.” Her NDE testimony was filmed in a TV docu-drama aired on PAX in spring of 2004.

She has been called a modern-day mystic but she simply refers to herself “a worker for the Big Guy.” She also continues to write songs and produce records. Concerning how to develop your God-given gifts, Tiffany says, “It’s all about learning to yield, and loving the Giver, instead of just the gifts; then He will give you both in unconditional love. We all have gifts!”

The following is a high-level overview of her NDE and the events surrounding it in Tiffany’s own words found in her book, “Psychic Gifts in the Christian Life – Tools to Connect.

The last thing I remember about the strike itself was doing an uncontrollable electrical dance as my muscles spasmed and contorted this way and that. I felt no pain. In that split second, I remembered that electrical shocks often stop the heart; so I pivoted around and pushed my chest against the corner of the truck parked there, thinking to start it again. Before I could even put any weight against it, my eyesight narrowed and I felt my body slowly slide down the bumper onto the wet earth; and all went black…

I found myself standing on nothing, way up in the universe, and there were distant colorful planets all around me. I could see misty pinpoints of stars through my right arm, and when I moved my arm back and forth it made the stars look wiggly, like a reflection on agitated water. I felt dizzy. I had a sense of being able to see not only in front of me, but all around me at the same time. Floating just a few feet from me, I saw a man with a spirit body just like mine (no wings), though he was short and had slanted eyes. He spoke to me with a voice that I heard inside my own head, saying: “Don’t be afraid, it’s okay.”

On the other side of me, another spirit person, this one much taller and with chiseled facial features (again no wings), nodded approvingly at me. All the while, we were moving with great speed toward a great ellipsed ball of spinning light; it was brilliantly white in the middle and yellowish on the outside edges. The closer we got to it, the more I felt overwhelming Love; it seemed so warm and comforting, it encompassed my very being … like the security of a favorite grandfather’s arms wrapped around a child as he crawls up onto his lap.

We stopped. The bright light was still far from me. I wanted to go on, I felt like a magnet, irresistibly drawn. The desire to “blend” had grown stronger the closer we got. I knew it was the very Presence of God himself.

Why had we stopped? As I stood there confused, yearning toward the Great Almighty beyond my reach, a glowing luminousness appeared in front of me. A Divine Presence was here!

A gentle voice called out from this realm of golden sparkles massed brilliantly in front of me – “What Have You Learned?” he asked, in a nondiscriminatory and non-accusing way. The voice was so soft and tender, yet the presence of Divine Authority was there; I knew that it was the voice of God’s own son, the empowered Jesus Christ.

Then – all of a sudden, life events unfolded before my very eyes. Key moments where I showed anger, and where I showed love, appeared like a movie. I could feel the anger and hurt of the other person whenever I had been mean; and I also felt the anger as it rippled on through to others. I had never before faced the horrid deepness of my own sins. Then, where I showed love to people, I felt that too. How very much further that rippled out from person to person, as a warm pulse triggering cause and effect in all things that were wonderful and blessed…I had never before experienced such joy!

Then the presence of Jesus said, “The Flesh Is The Test Of The Spirit … Love Each Other.” Words of wisdom imparted to me! I felt overwhelmed with love, and so privileged.

I wanted to stay! I wanted to join myself with God’s swirling life force, His Essence, His Heaven, was just beyond the presence of Jesus! But, I wasn’t allowed to go any farther. I wanted to go to God! I wanted to feel more Love!

“Why can’t I be with You now Father? Please, Abba, Please!”

I listened as hard as I could listen, waiting for His Words. Then, just on the outside of my understanding, I faintly heard voices singing the most beautiful melody I had ever heard in my whole life. I felt a “knowing” that these were the blessed voices of angels and those joined with God, and came from His Swirling Presence.

I knew it was praise for The Father, but I just couldn’t make out what the words were saying. I felt so sad … I knew I was supposed to go back to the earth. I knew I had to make a “better movie.” I wanted to stay. But, there and then, I vowed to be a vessel to do only His Will, if he could use me. I absolutely gave myself to him. His Will, not my own, would govern the rest of my life. If he could use this broken piece of clay from the earth, it was all his. I totally dedicated myself and surrendered all desires. Instantly, I felt a child-like sense of wonderment as a warm flood of bliss and peace overpowered me, and a warm tingling sensation filled me to my very toes. What was happening to me?

Again the spirit on my right side talked inside my head, and while I floated there before the Christ Consciousness, the very Presence of Jesus, the spirit told me something that I didn’t at all understand: “Welcome to the world of healers,” he said. This was a shock – I had no idea what that meant. At this point the Christ Consciousness of Jesus sparkled and faded away and the stars and space behind his glowing features were visible once again. Such effervescent beauty and colors twinkled around me, like being in the midst of a sparkling aurora borealis! So many shapes of heavenly bodies transfixed in the cosmos, all unique and necessary, all untold distances away. Yet they felt so close that it seemed I could reach out and pluck them out of the sky, and carry them home cupped in my hands.

Then the slant-eyed spirit went on and answered the many questions I was having about this experience. He then pointed out different stars, planets, distant colorful swirling lights of all kinds, and gave me names for all of them. Then he gave me answers to thousands of questions that I never had questions for! Reams of information seemed to be exploding in my brain, like an empty library suddenly being realized! Details flooded my being about many wonderful and sacred things. I wondered: were these things newly learned, or just remembered?

Most of this information I am still trying to integrate and understand. It is almost like trying to learn another language without being given the basic alphabet for it. So, at this point, these are deeper things I have told no one, and keep only to myself. Often, when in prayer to the Father I will ask him to further my understanding on these matters, yet I get the distinct feeling that true understanding will only be revealed on a “need to know” basis. However, for some reason a seed was planted within me. I do know some of this information came through as I was writing this book. There are things in here that I never knew that I knew!

I must remember that everything he does is for the Highest Good, always happens in the Perfect Time for it, and that it is His Will, not ever mine or anyone else’s, that matters. His is Perfect, Love Personified! I am just a sinful (but forgiven), impatient person! But, for some reason a groundwork has been laid within me. I know that if he wants me to share this information later on, he will tell me, and give me the reasoning ability to articulate and understand it.

The spirit who was speaking to me did not offer his name, and I did not ask. I wanted to be careful to show homage only to the True God and Christ, not to any one else. I then felt myself sinking, as if falling through a bed. I was being pulled back.

With that, I woke up, my husband shaking me by the shoulders. Somehow my physical body was now lying on the front seat of the truck, although I had left it out in the mud. Three hours had passed since I had gone from the house to the tractor shed. The storm had passed, but left evidence that at least three other strikes had occurred on the pasture, besides the one that struck me.

Thomas Sawyer’s Near-Death Experience

The late Thomas Sawyer’s (died 2007) near-death experience (NDE) is a very interesting study in the process of reincarnation. It is a process he learned during his NDE in 1978 when he was an avowed agnostic until his pickup truck fell on him and crushed his chest flat. He was clinically dead for fifteen minutes; yet he came back to tell about his NDE of going through a tunnel; meeting a “light that was God;” and was sent back to tell people about the unconditional love of God. He has talked about these topics and shared his NDE on such shows as Phil Donahue, Oprah Winfrey, Unsolved Mysteries, and Good Morning America. Dr. Ken Ring has written a wonderful article about several after-death communications (ADCs) from Sawyer after his death in 2007 to several people which you can read and/or download here: “The Death and Posthumous Life of Tom Sawyer: A Case Study of Apparent After-Death Communication” (PDF) in the Journal of Near-Death Studies, Winter 2008, Volume 27, Number 2. Interestingly enough, my article played a role in Sawyer’s ADCs to these several people. The following are excerpts from Thomas Sawyer and Sydney Farr’s wonderful book entitled What Tom Sawyer Learned From Dying.

1. Tom Sawyer’s Near-Death Journey Begins

Everything had gone blank. I then had a feeling of absolutely, positively, waking up, very quickly and sufficiently. I had the sensation of normalcy; I had all my five senses, and they were extremely acute. All pain and pressure was gone. I felt I could see very clearly, but the problem was I saw nothing but absolute, total blackness.

In this capacity, though, I was looking at absolute nothingness or darkness but my eyes were not straining. I had the desire to look around inquisitively. What is this place? Where am I? Well, again instantaneously, this darkness took the shape of a tunnel.

It was perfectly level, however slightly ambiguous in that it was straight before me and it was cloud-like. It was very vast, as opposed to small and confining, and was anywhere from a thousand feet to a thousand miles wide. That didn’t matter to me but I want to give you some reference point. I was very comfortable and inquisitive. It was cylindrical. If you took a tornado and stretched it out straight, it would be similar to that, without the houses and the doors floating around inside. It absolutely extended to infinity. This measurement of infinity was the first empirical knowledge that I had within my near-death experience.

Simultaneously with the awareness of this tunnel, I had a feeling of forward motion; it was very comfortable, it was very usual. Moving through this tunnel there was an acceleration. There was not any wind vibration, nor any noise. There was no motion sickness or anything like that. It was like floating within a vacuum. I saw that I was increasing speed, but there were no g-forces of the kind you would naturally experience in accelerating movement. I went faster and faster through the tunnel.

The next empirical knowledge I had was that I had attained at least the speed of light or conceivably faster. Whisking through the tunnel at this speed, I had the depth perception, the visual perception of the tunnel whisking past me (or I through the tunnel).

The next thing is that way, way off in the distance to infinity there appeared this little speck of light. That light was very special; it was the first identifiable object that I was able to focus on, to realize that it was nothing like what I’d seen before. It was extremely bright. This speck of light was brighter than something that would immediately blind you. It was brighter than a million billion carbon arcs, or welder’s torches, anything you can possibly compare it to. It was the brightest thing I’d ever seen in my life.

There was a tremendous eager anticipation because this was the first thing that wasn’t blurry or ambiguous. The appearance of this light way off at the end of the tunnel brought me a sense of great love and a feeling of camaraderie. That was something extraordinary, greater than anything that I’d experienced during my thirty-three years of life. It was utter beauty. The light was way off in the distance and got larger as I got closer to it.

I was eager to get closer to the light. I was still Thomas Sawyer, with all of my personality and characteristics, yet here I was, separate from the light by just a spatial measurement of visual connotation. Now being at the end of the tunnel and standing before the light, it seemed that it covered the entire vista before me. It was more beautiful than I’ve tried to describe, because I could use all the superlatives, and then I’d have to say: but it was more.

2. Tom Sawyer Meets Jesus Christ

I had never experienced anything that divine. It was white, possibly, blue-white, but certainly white. It was paradoxically absolutely everything. It included Thomas Sawyer. It included the tunnel that was behind me. It included the entire universe that I was ever aware of. It was absolutely, positively, everything. It was also absolutely the most beautiful thing that I’ve ever seen, that I’ve ever been near or experienced.

The light I am describing is whatever most people would describe as God. That’s the description. It meant the same to me as the word “God”. It was in fact the light of Jesus Christ.

From the onset of this rather super-conscious state of the darkness of the tunnel, there was something that was totally missing, and that was what we call time. There’s no such thing as time in heaven! The chronology of my accident is as I told you: there was the darkness, I was moving through the tunnel, and there was a light at the end of the tunnel. There was then a confrontation with the light at the end of the tunnel whatever more. That’s the chronology in that order.

There were such feelings of warmth and love coming from the light that it made me feel good. Now it was right before me and instantly began communicating with me. Instantaneously it emanated to me, thought-pattern to thought-pattern. And to describe it I coined the phrase: superluminal telepathic communication: a telepathic thought-pattern to thought-pattern rapport that functioned as fast as or conceivable faster than the speed of light.

It was pure communication that was complete in every respect. I will do a bit of role-playing here because the communication was not in words.

The light emanated to me: “Tom, you have to be where you are and in the condition that you are. Before you is the light. You have the opportunity to ask any series of questions. Any question that you can conceive of will be absolutely, unequivocally answered. If it’s a series of questions about something that you would require some kind of knowledgeable background to intelligently formulate your questions, you will instantly have that background.”

In other words, as I thought of and formulated a desire or a question, it would already have been recognized, acknowledged, and therefore answered. And the dialogue that took place, took place in no time. It didn’t require a fifteen-minute duration in time; it simply happened.

One of the questions which I did ask was, “What about the Jesus stuff?”

Now that was not a singular question; it’s hard for me to describe so you can understand the way it is.

“What about the Jesus stuff?” is like saying, “Okay, all kidding aside, was Jesus of Nazareth real, was he a live person? A historical truth? Was he the son of God? Is he divine? Is he at the right hand of the Father? What about the Jesus stuff?”

I can break off here and tell you that was basically answered in the affirmative. At one point I felt as if I were a speck of light on Jesus’ shoulder, and I was able to experience full knowledge of all of Jesus’ incarnations from the beginning of time.

At the time this happened to me I was an agnostic. As far as religious and spiritual aspects, I practically did not have any religion at all. I had a Catholic Christian background, but that was meaningless in my life. I was perfectly comfortable without any of that stuff. But I did have some theories, I did have a cultural and religious background. I had certain preconceived ideas and was thinking that, should they be verified or should they not be verified, whatever the truth is, that’s what I wish to know. So there was a desire for that type of knowledge. That’s one question.

A vast majority of the questions in this question-and-answer period were of those things connected to total knowledge and a divine entity that some of us call God. “What about the Jesus stuff” was a priority for me to ask. A majority of my questions were of a personal and private nature, regarding that particular time in my life as well as future scenarios.

The question-and-answer period went on, and then rules and regulations were emanated.

“Tom, you have a choice. You have the opportunity to choose to return to normal life. If you have that desire, that will be facilitated instantaneously with no problems, no strings attached.”

In other words, if I decided to return, the instant that I even considered it, I would be immediately returned.

However, I could decide to become part of the light.

“If you choose to stay and become part of this light, totally homogeneous with it, that’s okay. But, if you choose that, then you will never again be able to choose, on your own decision, to return to normal life. And that’s okay.”

In order to make that choice intelligently; I had to have a complete life review.

3. Tom Sawyer’s Life Review

I know that I experienced a total life review, but I have never been able to fit it properly into any of that basic chronology. It had to have happened from the center of the tunnel or the movement within the tunnel, prior to what I call the confrontation with the light. And the best way to describe it is to give you an example.

When I was around eight years old my father told me to mow the law and cut the weeds in the yard. We had a cottage in the back and a double house in the front. Aunt Gay, my mother’s sister, lived in the cottage out back. Aunt Gay is a very delightful person; she’s a friend of mine as well as my aunt. Aunt Gay was very clever, as was my mother I’m sure it’s a genealogical trait! Everybody liked Aunt Gay. She was always fun to be with. Certainly all the kids thought she was a cool person to know. She had described to me her plans for some wild flowers that grew on little vines in the backyard.

“Leave them alone now, Tom,” she said, “and as soon as they blossom we’ll make tiaras for all the girls, and flower necklaces for some of the guys.”

And then everybody could pitch in and she’d teach them how to weave such things. That was typical of her. We were looking forward to that.

However, my father told me to mow the lawn and cut the weeds. Now, I had several choices. I could explain to my father that Aunt Gay wanted the weeds left to grow in this particular area. If he said to cut them all, I could have explained to Aunt Gay that father had just told me to mow the lawn and said to cut that patch of weeds. I could ask if she wanted to make her request to my father. Or, I could methodically and deliberately go ahead and mow the yard and cut the weeds. I did that. Well, worse that that, I even came up with a name for the job. I called it “Operation Chop-Chop.” I deliberately decided to be bad, to be malicious.

And I went ahead, feeling the authority that my father gave me when he told me to cut the grass and the weeds.

I thought, “Wow, I got away with it; I did it. And if Aunt Gay ever says anything I’ll just tell her father told me to do it. Or if father asks me I’ll say, well that’s what you told me to do.”

And I would be vindicated. It would be okay; it would be a perfect Operation Chop-Chop. End of story. My Aunt Gay never said a word to me; nothing was every mentioned; I got away with it totally.

Guess what? I not only relived it in my life review, but I relived every exact thought and attitude; even the air temperature and things that I couldn’t have possibly measured when I was eight years old. For example, I wasn’t aware of how many mosquitoes were in the area. In the life review, I could have counted the mosquitoes. Everything was more accurate than could possibly be perceived in the reality of the original event.

I not only re-experienced my eight-year-old attitude and the kind of excitement and joy of getting away with something, but I was also observing this entire event as a thirty-three-year-old adult; with the wisdom and philosophy I was able to attain by that time. But it was more than that.

I also experienced it exactly as though I was Aunt Gay, several days later after the weeds had been cut, when she walked out the back door. I knew the series of thoughts that bounced back and forth in her mind.

“Oh my goodness, what has happened? Oh well, he must have forgotten. But he couldn’t have forgotten, everyone was looking forward to Oh no, knock it off. Tommy is he’s… He’s never done anything like that. I love him so… Oh, come on, cut it out. Gee, it was so important. He had to know … he couldn’t have known.”

Back and forth, back and forth, between thinking of the possibility, and saying to herself:

“Well, it is possible. No, Tommy isn’t like that. It doesn’t matter anyway, I love him. I’ll never mention it. God forbid, if he did forget and I remind him, that will hurt his feelings. But I think that he did, though. Should I confront him with it and just ask him?”

Thought-pattern after thought-pattern. What I’m telling you is, I was in my Aunt Gay’s body, I was in her eyes, I was in her emotions, I was in her unanswered questions. I experienced the disappointment, the humiliation. It was very devastating to me. It changed my attitude quite a bit as I experienced it.

I experienced things that cannot be perceived. I watched me mowing the law from straight above, anywhere from several hundred to a couple of thousand feet, as though I were a camera. I watched all of that. I was able to perceive and feel and know everything about my Aunt Gay regarding our relationship in that general time frame and regarding Operation Chop-Chop.

In addition to this, and what is probably more important, spiritually speaking, I was able to observe the scene, absolutely, positively, unconditionally. In other words, not with the horrendous emotional ill-feelings that my Aunt Gay experienced not knowing for sure, and yet being afraid to question for fear that she would inflict some kind of dis-ease, or ill feelings on my part. God forbid, if I did it by accident and her reminder would hurt my feelings. And yet she experienced hurt in losing the flowering weeds, not being able to do the things for all the children she had promised, and constantly questioning whether I could have done it on purpose. I did experience that in this unconditional way, with this unconditional love that is only God’s eyes, or the eyes of Jesus Christ, or the light of Jesus, or the light of Buddha enlightened, the spiritual entity.

It is that combination that is God unconditionally, not “Boy, Tom, you sure did a good rip-off,” or “There, Tom, now do you feel bad enough?” Or, “You sure were bad.”

None of that, only, as in the eyes of God, simple, pure, scientific observation, complete, totally, non-attachment. No judgmental aspect whatever. This is simultaneous with the total devastation of what I created in my aunt’s life. And the arrogance, the snide little thoughts, the bad feelings, and the excitement of what I created in my own life at that young age, that was one event.

I wish that I could tell you how it really felt and what the life review is like, but I’ll never be able to do it accurately. I’m hoping to give you just a slight inkling of what is available to each and every one of you. Will you be totally devastated by the crap you’ve brought into other people’s lives? Or will you be equally enlightened and uplifted by the love and joy that you have shared in other people’s lives?

Well, guess what? It pretty much averages itself out. You will be responsible for yourself, judging and reliving what you have done to everything and everybody in very far-reaching ways. Very small, seemingly inconsequential things such as the day when I, nine years old, walked through Seneca Park and loved the appearance of a tree. In my life review I could experience a bit of what the tree experienced in my loving it, two little photons of love and adoration. It was somewhat like the leaves acknowledging my presence. Can a tree experience that? Yes, it can. Don’t go kicking trees anymore!

You do have that effect on plants. You do have an effect on animals. You do have an effect on the universe. And in your life review you’ll be the universe and experience yourself in what you call your lifetime and how it affects the universe. In your life review you’ll be yourself absolutely, in every aspect of time, in every event, in the over-all scheme of things in your lifetime. Your life.

The little bugs on your eyelids that some of you don’t even know exist. That’s an interrelationship, you with yourself and these little entities that are living and surviving on your eyelids. When you waved a loving goodbye to a good friend the other day, did you affect the clouds up above? Did you actually affect them? Does a butterfly’s wings in China affect the weather here? You better believe it does? You can learn all of that in a life review!

As this takes place, you have total knowledge. You have the ability to be a psychologist, a psychiatrist, a psychoanalyst, and much more. You are your own spiritual teacher, maybe for the first and only time in your life. You are simultaneously the student and the teacher in a relationship.

My life review was part of this experience also. It was absolutely, positively, everything basically from the first breath of life right through the accident. It was everything.

During this life review I experienced what I can only describe as “in the eyes of Jesus Christ.” Meaning, I watched and observed this entire event as if I were in the eyes of Jesus Christ. Which means unconditionally.

It does not mean, “Gee, Tom, by being Christ-like, you don’t hit people, you love people.”

No to that. Nor was it, “Wow, God has really made you a very good specimen and your reflexes are superior. You did an excellent job in beating that man up.”

No to that either. It’s not judgmental or negative. I can’t describe it other than with the unconditional love of Christ, the Christ who has absolute unconditional love. You will have the experience of observing something without any emotion or righteousness, or judgmental attachments. You will be able to observe history only as history, without the emotional attachments to the facts and figures. I want to also say that, to offset that, there were experiences of absolute love and joy.

Well, having had this life review, I was also given a choice. I could decide to return to my normal life, which meant that I would survive the truck accident, my heart would be beating and I would be alive and physically, basically, okay. If I decided to return to normal life it would be facilitated on my own desire.

If, however, I decided to stay and become part of that light, enter into it, be homogenous with it, that would be done. I would never again on my own decision be able to choose to return to normal life.

4. Tom Sawyer Chooses to Enter into the Light

“Tom, you will have given of your free will you will be dead, and I cannot change that!”

Well, I chose to stay and become part of that light and that was facilitated.

I made a forward motion. It was as though I leaned forward because there was a slight forward motion toward the light or an effort toward the light it was a symbolic gesture. I didn’t actually have to make a physical motion. It was at that point that I made the attempt to feel more of the light. And the word “feel” includes all of the essences and emotions of the light.

What happened then? I’ve been making an analogy to Star Trek, where the guy is standing there and says, “Beam me up, Scotty.”

You see the image of the physical person there and then he just becomes little photons of light. I really like that. That’s very descriptive. Scotty wasn’t standing there but I just kind of became little photons of light and there is only the slightest of memories of anything after that. Even though I was in my soul body, not my physical body, that which I was before the light blended in and ceased to exist. In other words, if you have pure light you have all of the masses of photons in the universe in a purified state only white light. One of the last things I can recall is that I was blending into and becoming homogeneous with that light. I had the feeling of the light just engulfing me. About the only accurate word that I can use to describe what I felt then is the word “power.” But it wasn’t an earthly type of power, it wasn’t greedy power, or an I’m-better-than-you-power.

There’s no language to explain what happened in the light. It was divine power. What I’m sure of is that, as that was facilitated, I became total knowledge. That was so extraordinary. Having had that experience for just a split-second out of time certainly has been very humbling for me. I cannot ever comfortably say that I even became like God. God is total knowledge. What does total knowledge mean? It’s divine power. I’m not total knowledge now. There have been a few little fancy phrases and helpful hints and so on that have leaked out of my subconscious or super-conscious that certainly did come from that total thing called knowledge.

The memory of where I was and what condition I was in comes as little bombardments or packets of total knowledge that can be described by many analogies, such as a machine gun, with each bullet being a packet of knowledge just blasted into my being.

There are characteristics and aspects of that part of my experience that I would really wish to talk about a little deeper. I’ve not found the words. I tried writing it; I tried taping it. I’ve not found phrases or even analogies to deal with that.

Some of the things are regarding the aspect of, “What is the light?”

Well, the light is God. And what is God? God is unconditional love. God is total beauty. God is everything!

What happened when I went through the tunnel? Did I see the face of Jesus Christ? Yes, I did. But the most important thing that I have been able to say is probably the aspect of total knowledge. It was a feeling of divine power. It’s overwhelming for me to say that I, Thomas Sawyer, was divine or experienced total knowledge. I remember one or two photons of that experience. I don’t even know how to measure it. I made up a phrase: bleams of light. A couple of bleams of light information I can recall from that last stage or stages. I don’t even know if it’s singular or plural.

You might ask, didn’t I feel grief or regret because I’d be parted from Elaine and my children and this nice life I had lived for thirty-three years? Yes, to all of that, but this was beyond paradise, this was heaven, this was perfection. This was not a mosquito bite; this was not heat and humidity; not all of the stuff that we call reality; not all the joy of being able to share and to love people. It was everything that we experience joyfully and sorrowfully, only in a perfected state. It was perfection.

5. What Tom Sawyer Learned About Reincarnation

Reincarnation is not a linear thing. One of the problems in defining it is that there is no analogy to it. It is outside of time, yet we can’t help but think of it in terms of the past and the future, and this incarnation. The whole story is so big and so involved.

Reincarnation is an opportunity to reach a goal. The goal is true self-realization. Self-realization is to know that you are a soul, a part of God, yet also the Whole. Perhaps no one has a very good image at all of his or her soul – the whole self. And they have no idea of what proportion their personality is in relationship to their soul.

As an example, a characteristic of your personality is one percent of all of your personality characteristics put together, and all of your personality characteristics make up your personality, and your personality is only about five percent of your soul, then we are blinding ourselves to 95 percent of the rest of our soul in order to reincarnate.

Reincarnation is an opportunity to evolve through many personalities. The definition of reincarnation is that your personality is who you are in your current lifetime, and that it can be reincarnated as an entirely different personality with the characteristics of the previous personality and previous personalities including even characteristics of another soul altogether. That is, characteristics of your present personality may be the reincarnation of other characteristics of personalities from your previous lifetimes as well as characteristics from personalities from other souls.

If a person dies and goes totally homogeneous back into the light it is reasonably improbable that there will be another reincarnation. It is improbable. However, it is more usual for people to die and go partially back into the light while remaining partially in the realm of the Earth realm. That means remaining partially within the earthly confines of the human condition with an attachment of sorts to the human condition.

Once you go into the spirit realm, you may realize that you haven’t learned everything you should, so you find another personality, another body and your soul is maintained throughout. As you transform into another personality, your soul does not get bigger or smaller. You carry with you characteristics of your former personalities. The simplest example is to say that the phrase “burning off bad karma” means that you have characteristics that you have to deal with.

It is true that future scenarios are not absolute, and that free will changes, and subtle manipulation on different spiritual realms can change your future characteristics and personality. We are preparing for future incarnations here in the current incarnation we find ourselves in.

Once you enter into the light and blend with God, you become God. God is light and light is love. You can’t take a knife and cut out a part of love and take it away. If you theoretically cut love in half and take it, there’s not half love here and half love there. Each part is wholly God.

We may have perceptions that we are separate from God, that we are less than God. But the divinity is within us, the light is in every cell in our body and that, collectively, makes the soul. We can think of that in terms of being subordinate or less than and separate from God. But since you are a part of the Whole, God is not minus that part of you. God is still 100 percent even when God appears, in this physical existence, to be separated.

The incomprehensible part is at that point at which you no longer exist and you become only light when you fully merge with the light. This is because the character and the characteristics that you are, the uniqueness that is you and nobody else, still exists when you cease to exist as a personality. But every bit of your personality is available for reincarnation. That’s the paradox part.

A single soul has the same power as God! You have exactly the same intensive power as God. You have the same potential as God within the human condition. The oneness of the whole, or the wholeness of the one, being God, is ultimately powerful and unconditional love.

You cannot conquer, or divide, or diminish unconditional love. It exists omnipresent, that’s true, it exists like that. For example, if you take one “cupful” of God, you have God in the cup, and that can’t be diminished at all. Now if God, by God’s own infinite wisdom and love, decides to allow a cup of light to be used in such a way as a soul, and for the purpose of incarnating into the human condition to our level, the light involved in that is our soul. Our soul is that light, that one cup, that small amount, which was purely, divinely God. It has the full power of God; that is, one cup of light has the same luminous unconditional love, the same power of God.

All souls are equal at the soul level.

Yet some say, “He’s a highly evolved soul.”

The soul doesn’t evolve, the personality does. To state that the soul evolves at all is not correct. Your personality can be evolved – highly evolved, lesser evolved, or no evolvement at all to where you’re just stagnant. You have the ability to create negative karma. To go backwards, to be born with certain characteristics and personality that can be culturally conditioned, or decommissioned, if you will, and go pretty much backwards. You can actually lose a little bit in your actual evolvement to a spiritual recognition, a spiritual reality.

Ricky Randolph’s Near-Death Experience

In December of 1982, Ricky Randolph, a Georgia Department of Corrections Correctional Officer, was involved in a hunting accident and had a near-death experience. Since then, he has had many psychic occurrences which have been verified by family and friends. Ordained as a Baptist minister at age 17, his life even in childhood was filled with psychic events. The following is his unique near-death experience reprinted by permission. It can be described as unique for a very good reason. The reason is miraculous. As the saying goes: “Miracles happen.” Randolph’s near-death experience in his own words appears in Kevin Williams’ book, Nothing Better Than Death.

1. A Prelude to a Miracle

I was looking forward to this morning, as I had planned a hunting trip on the ninety-eight acre farm, bordering the Chattahoochee River, my family and I lived on. I arrived home and gathered my gear trying to get as early a start as I could. My wife had already left for work as most people do who have normal working hours. I usually called her when I was going hunting but being in a hurry on this particular morning I didn’t.

I had about a two mile hike to my tree stand and arrived there around 10:15 a.m. My stand was about 20 feet high on the front side facing a thick patch of pines. The back side faced the river below and dropped off to huge boulders in the river below. I tied off my rifle to be pulled up after my climb to the top and began my upward ascent. I reached the top and positioned myself to pull my rifle up. Then without warning I heard a snap. I would later return to this site many times to reflect on my life. On one visit with a friend I measured the distance from the top of the stand down to the boulder I landed on – eighty feet!

As I began my fall to the river below I could see the river coming up fast. I knew this was the end for me and though it was just seconds before impact, it was as though I was in slow motion.

So many thoughts raced through my mind. “My wife, my daughter, my family, and no one knows where I am! Would I ever be found?”

Then, darkness. How long this darkness lasted I don’t know. Then something wonderful happened. I felt myself leaving my body. I was floating a few feet in the air above the river. I looked on my body with mixed feelings. I was bleeding from my mouth, nose, ears, and saw a trickle of blood underneath me on the boulder. As I was reflecting on the state of my body, I felt a pulling and began to rise very fast. I was traveling at a high rate of speed upwards through the atmosphere.

As I left the atmosphere, I looked back and could see the Earth! Such a beautiful sight! It was so brilliantly lit. As I looked ahead I could see the planets. I thought to myself, “This cannot be! Where is Jesus?” I was never told anything like this could or would happen when I died.

Faster, and faster the speed was increasing. I saw other star systems and galaxies as I raced onward. I entered what seemed to be a hole of some sort. It was long and dark. However around me I saw streaks of light made up of every color in the spectrum. I saw a faint light growing brighter and brighter in the distance up ahead. As I entered the light I felt it all through my being. I was not afraid anymore.

Then all of a sudden I was standing before a massive set of steps. They led up to what seemed to be a bridge or walk of some kind. In the distance I saw a sight so magnificent and astounding – a city made up of what seemed to be glass or crystal!

2. A Miracle is Foretold

The lights were of many colors that radiated from it. Never have I ever seen such a sight. I began walking toward the city in a daze of unbelief.

So many questions raced through my mind. “I had to know where I was. What was happening to me?”

I reached the front of the city and saw a double door that looked to be about thirty feet or so in height and width. It shined as if it was polished. As I stood there wondering, the doors began to open. I took a step back and looked inside.

I could see what appeared to be people walking about on the inside, much like they do in a mall here on Earth. These people though were dressed very different. For one thing, they all seemed to be dressed in some sort of robes with hoods.

I entered through the doors in amazement at what I was seeing. The inside was massive. It seemed to be square in shape, with a balcony all around that led down to different levels. I walked up and looked downward over the balcony. It seemed to go on forever!

As I looked up I saw many passing by me, yet no one seemed to notice me. Then as one was approaching me he suddenly stopped. He slowly raised his head and I could see his face.

He appeared to be human in every respect but one. His eyes. No pupils! Yet they seemed to change colors in colors of blue. His hair was snow white.

I wanted to speak but before I could he turned and pointed to a long hallway. Though we never spoke I knew I was to go down this hallway.

Then as if nothing had ever happened, he continued on. I knew I had to as well. Something was beckoning me forward.

I walked a long walk down to the end of this hallway. I did not turn to the right or the left. I knew somehow that my questions were about to be answered.

Again I saw before me a massive double door. It seemed to be of some type of metal – whether gold or not I could not tell.

Suddenly the doors opened. I heard a voice, though not as we speak, but from inside of me it seemed to say, “Enter.” I did as I was told and the doors shut suddenly behind me. I was afraid for the first time. Total darkness. Total silence.

Then after a space of time the length of which I could not determine, a bright light began to glow in the room. Brighter and brighter it became! It was somewhat above me and in front of me. I tried to look but was almost blinded from it! I held my hands up in front of me and could make out the appearance of a figure setting on some type of seat.

Then without warning it happened.

“What have you done with your life?”

The voice penetrated my very being. I had no answer.

Then to my right I saw what seemed to be like a movie, and I was in it. I saw my mother giving me birth, my childhood and friends. I saw everything from my youth up. I saw everything I had ever done before my eyes!

As my life played out before my very eyes I tried to think of good things I had done. I was raised in church and had been very active in church functions.

Yet as I pondered on this, I saw a man in his car that had ran out of gas. I had stopped and given him a lift to a local store about a year ago. I had bought him some gas as he had no money and helped him get on his way. I thought to my self, why am I seeing this? The voice was loud and clear.

“You took no thought to help this soul and asked nothing in return. These actions are the essence of good.”

I saw all the people I had hurt as well and was shown how my actions had set in motion the actions of others. I was stunned! I had never thought of my life having an effect on the actions that friends, family, and others I had met would take. I saw the results of all I had done. I was not pleased at all.

I looked on until the events came to an end. Indeed I had done so little with my life. I had been selfish and cruel in so many ways. I was truly sorry I had done so little. Then again loud and clear I heard the voice speak again, “You must return.”

I did not want to return though. I was content to stay and longed to stay even after the things I had seen and heard.

“I have so many questions,” I replied, “things I need to know and don’t understand.”

“You must return and help others to change by changing your life. Physicians will want to perform surgery on you. Do not let this happen. If you do you will never walk again. You will be visited by one who will bring you answers to the questions you have. When I call, you will come again. You will recover from all that has happened if you do these things. Look and see what lies ahead.”

I turned and saw the Earth in turmoil. Wars and death. Terrible sights. Cities fell and new ones were built. I saw the United States and a volcano exploding covering many cities in darkness. I looked on and saw the collapse of our government as we know it. People killing for food and water. Horrible sights. I saw what seemed to be a giant explosion in the Earth’s atmosphere and much land was destroyed. I looked on and saw a new type of people, younger and of a peaceful nature. The cities were few that were left, but these people seemed to be content.

“It is time for you to go,” I heard again.

But I wanted to see more!

Then the doors opened and I felt myself almost being carried down the hallway. I passed through the doors of the city and felt myself shooting through this hole I had came through. Faster I went, unable to stop.

I entered the atmosphere of Earth and saw the river below. I saw my body still lying there motionless.

Then it was like an electric shock so tremendous I felt my body jump. I opened my eyes and saw the trees above and the skyline. Then, Oh God, the pain! I was struggling for every breath, choking on my own blood.

3. The Miracle That Happened

I managed to roll onto my stomach. The pain was all I could bare. I looked at the sky and saw the sun was lower than I remembered. I looked at my watch. It was 5:30. My only thoughts were how I could get help. I noticed my rifle was not far from me, still attached to the rope I had tied around my waist. I began pulling it toward me. I managed to grab hold of the barrel and pulled it up to me. I fired a shot about every ten minutes hoping someone would come.

It was getting late and I knew I would not make it much longer, so I began crawling on my stomach, pulling myself with the stock of my rifle. I managed to crawl up a trail that ran down to the river. As I crawled and crawled, the pain was so great I passed out many times. Through thick brush and briar patches I crawled. I wanted to give up I was so tired and in so much pain. I knew though I had to make it at least to where I could be found – I hoped.

I looked out in front of me and saw the road I lived on through the trees. I could hear sounds in the distance!

“Yes, thank you God,” I thought to myself!

I finally found myself at the road and began a feeble cry for help. I was too exhausted though and just lay there in the road.

My father-in-law was returning from work and found me lying in the road.

“It’s all right,” I heard him say. “Help is on the way.”

That was the last I remembered until I saw the lights inside the ER. A doctor stood at my feet.

“Can you feel this?” he said.

“Feel what?” I asked. He had been sticking my feet and legs. I was paralyzed!

“We can not help you here son,” he said. “We are sending you by ambulance to a hospital that can handle your injuries.”

Whether from the pain or medication, I was out like a light.

The next afternoon I awoke to find two doctors standing at the foot of my hospital bed. They introduced themselves as my attending physicians and proceeded to explain to me I must undergo surgery at once. The bones in my back that were broken were putting pressure on my spinal nerve causing paralysis. Then I heard the warning I had heard before.

“Do not let them perform surgery, or you will never walk again.”

I understood completely, but I knew they would not. I told them I must see my wife and daughter first.

My wife arrived with my daughter shortly after the doctors’ visit. I told her what they had said. She advised me that I must realize they were doing what was necessary to help me. I did not know how to tell her what I had experienced. I tried to tell her it was my belief that I should not be operated on. Although she disagreed, she honored my wishes.

When the doctors returned and I told them of my decision, they were very upset. I listened to lecture after lecture.

“OK,” one of them said, “if you never want to walk again that’s up to you.” Then they left.

That night I lay upon my bed and wept sorely. Was I insane? What was I doing? A light began to fill my room.

“You will be well,” I heard a voice say. Then it was gone. I composed myself and dosed off to sleep.

Days turned into weeks, weeks into months. Then one morning I felt a tingling in my feet! I was overcome with joy! I told the nurse I wanted to get up and walk. She stared at me and said, “We’ll see, we’ll see.”

I knew I was healed without a doubt. The nurse put a call in to my doctor and the next morning he stopped by.

“So you think you can walk?” he said.

“Yes,” I replied.

“Well, we will see.”

A few hours later I was taken down to the physical therapy room. They carried me down and raised me up to a vertical position. The nurse helped me in front of a set of parallel bars. I gripped the bars and placed my feet firmly on the floor. One step. Two steps.

“My God, he’s walking!” the nurse said to the nurse who had brought me down.

The next few days were hard. I took many trips to physical therapy, and had numerous x-rays done per my doctors’ orders. My wife and family were all amazed, yet I knew. I had been told! The rest had to be true as well.

My doctor was more amazed when he found no bones pressing on my spinal nerve. I quote: “This is not normal. It seems a Higher Power has done for you what we were going to try and correct with surgery. I have never seen anything like this before.’ End quote.

Since that day, my life has changed and I have been able to help others in ways I never dreamed. I wanted to share this with all, as it is what has led me onward in my quest for truth.

RaNelle Wallace’s Near-Death Experience

On October 9, 1985, RaNelle Wallace and her husband tried to fly their single-engine airplane through a snowstorm in central Utah. They became disoriented and crashed against the side of a mountain, turning their small craft into a raging inferno. Burnt over 75% of her body, charred and in severe pain she struggled for her life as she climbed down the jagged and treacherous mountainside to seek for help. After giving all that was in her to give, she finally let go of her life when the paramedic said, “Stop fighting, well do all the work for you!” RaNelle Wallace died at that time – six hours after the plane crashed. What happened to her then has captured the hearts of thousands who have heard of her incredible journey beyond this life.

One aspect of her near-death experience is very unusual and quite amazing. While in heaven, she sees her son who was not yet born into the world. It is this aspect of her experience that makes her near-death experience very unique. What follows are excerpts from her book, The Burning Within in which she describes her amazing near-death experience. More information can be found at RaNelle’s Facebook Page.

1. RaNelle Experiences the Tunnel and Life Review

At that moment I was sucked into a narrow tube, and I began flying through it feet first. The tube was extremely tight, and I became more frightened because it almost felt like my body was being sucked inside out. My speed was tremendous – indescribable. Nothing on Earth has ever gone that fast, nothing could. It felt as if I were whizzing past galaxies, but the colors and lights were right next to me, almost brushing against me, and my fears mounted.

Then I heard voices. It seemed people were traveling beside me somehow, although there was no room for them. I became aware of one person near me who was alone and not speaking. I couldn’t see anyone; I just knew the person was there.

The voices stopped and a brief scene flashed before me. A series of pictures, words, ideas, understanding. It was a scene from my life. It flashed before me with incredible rapidity, and I understood it completely and learned from it. Another scene came, and another, and another, and I was seeing my entire life, every second of it. And I didn’t just understand the events; I relived them. I was that person again, doing those things to my mother, or saying those words to my father or brothers or sisters, and I knew why, for the first time, I had done them or said them. Entirety does not describe the fullness of this review. It included knowledge about myself, that all the books in the world couldn’t contain. I understood every reason for everything I did in my life. And I also understood the impact I had on others.

A part of me began to anticipate certain events, things in my life I would dread seeing again. But most of them didn’t show up, and I understood that I had taken responsibility for these actions and had repented of them. I saw myself repenting of them, sincerely wanting God to remove the weight and guilt of those terrible actions. And He had. I marveled at His sublime love and that my misdeeds could be forgiven and removed so easily. But then I saw other scenes that I hadn’t anticipated, things that were just as awful. I saw them in horrible detail and watched the impact they had on others. I saw that I had let many people down in my life. I had made commitments to friends and family that I had just let ride until they were irreversibly unfulfilled. People had depended on me, and I had said, I’m too busy or it’s not my problem, and just let it go. My cavalier attitude had caused real pain and heartache in others, pain I had never known about.

I was shown a friend who I knew had suffered terribly in her life. She lived in a beautiful, spiritual world before she came to this life, and she had been confused and hesitant about coming here at all. But she was given the promise of good parents, family members, and friends, and she agreed to come for the experience and growth this life would afford her. I was shown that I was one of the key friends who had been given to her as a guide and help. Then I saw my own personal follies and uncaring attitudes. I saw how these had combined to mislead my friend and propel her into new mistakes and grief.

I had messed up my own life, not really caring about the consequences, and in so doing had hurt her as well. If I had followed through on my obligations to myself and others, she would have lived an easier and more productive life. Until that moment I had never realized that ignoring responsibilities was a sin.

What was happening? Why was I seeing all this? My mind spun with questions.

Next, I saw a woman whom I had been asked by our local church leader to visit periodically. I was just to check up on her and see if she needed any help. I knew the woman quite well but was afraid of her constant pessimism and negativity. She was locally renowned for her bitterness. I didn’t think I could handle the depressing influence she would have on me, so I never went to see her. Not once. I saw now that the opportunity to visit her had been orchestrated by Higher Powers, that I had been just the person she needed at that time. She didn’t know it, and I didn’t know it, but I had let her down. Now I lived her sadness and felt her disappointment and knew I was a cause of it. I had fallen through on a special mission to her, a responsibility that would have strengthened me over time. I had retreated from an opportunity for growth, both for me and for her, because I was not caring enough to fight through my petty fears and laziness. But the reasons didn’t matter; I could see that, even now, she was living in sadness and bitterness, living through it just as I now experienced it, and there was nothing I could do to go back and help.

I re-experienced myself doing good things, but they were fewer and less significant than I had thought. Most of the great things I thought I had done were almost irrelevant. I had done them for myself. I had served people when it served me to do so. I had founded my charity on conditions of repayment, even if the repayment was merely a stroke to my ego. Some people had been helped, however, by my small acts of kindness, a smile, a kind word, little things I had long since forgotten. I saw that people were happier because of my actions and in turn were kinder to others. I saw that I had sent out waves of goodness and hope and love when I had only meant to smile or to help in a small way. But I was disappointed at how few of these incidents there were. I had not helped as many people as I thought.

As the review of my life came to an end I was in agony. I saw everything I had ever done in vivid, immediate detail – the bad things, haunting and terrifying in their finality, and the good things, ringing with greater reward and happiness than I had ever imagined. But in the end I was found wanting. I found myself wanting. Nobody was there to judge me. Nobody had to be. I wanted to melt in the agony of self-indictment. The fires of remorse began to consume me, but there was nothing I could do.

2. RaNelle Enters the Light and Meets Her Grandmother

A dot of light appeared far off in front of me. It was just a pinpoint, a tiny speck in the distance, but its brilliance distinguished it from all other lights around me and I instinctively pressed towards it. Emanating from it was a love and hope and peace that my soul hungered for. I wanted, I needed this brilliant, radiant light. The black tube took the shape of a tunnel now, opening up as I neared its end. The light burst forth before me, filling everything with brightness, and I was coming upon it impossibly fast. Oh, my gosh, I thought, it’s brighter than the sun. It’ll blind me! It’ll kill me!

I remembered my burns from the plane crash and was afraid they would ignite again in this radiance. But I couldn’t stop myself. I was drawn to the light by forces I could not control, so I shut my eyes against my impending destruction. But my eyes wouldn’t shut. They felt shut – but somehow I could still see. And then I was in the light.

Like a nuclear explosion, the light pierced me. Every particle of me was shot through with blinding, brilliant light, and I had a feeling of transparency. My skin didn’t burn. My eyes still saw. I floated in this light, bathed in it, and the love that surrounded me and filled me was sweeter and finer than anything I had ever felt. I was changed by it, refined, rarified, made pure. I basked in its sweetness, and the traumas of the past were far behind me, forgotten and transformed by peace. Then an image appeared in the distance.

A woman walked toward me dressed in white. Her hair was white, and her face shone with light. I had no fear of her; the love I felt allowed no fear. She came forward and stood immediately before me. Then she smiled, and I loved her smile. It filled me with even greater love, and I wanted to know her. She spoke my name. “RaNelle.”

But her lips didn’t move. Her smile never changed and my first thought was, “Wow, what a trick! Her lips didn’t move.”

“RaNelle,” she said again, and I realized her voice sounded in my mind and not in my ears. How could this be?

“RaNelle,” she was more insistent. “It’s Grandma.”

And the moment she said this, I recognized her. She was my mother’s mother. But she looked different than I had remembered. She was full and rounded and vibrant. She appeared to be about twenty-five years old, but her hair was glorious white, and everything about her was radiantly beautiful. Her body was glorious, and I began to understand why I hadn’t recognized her. She had been frail and sick all the years I had known her. Then the realization hit me.

Grandma was dead; she had died a couple of years before. And I thought, if she’s dead, then what am I doing here?

“Oh, I’m dead.” The thought came out of me like spoken words, though I hadn’t moved my mouth.

Now everything fit. The colorful lights, the life review, and now this light of glorious love, all of it naturally occurred as my life continued in this next world. This definitely wasn’t some dream or some drug-induced vision. I was more keenly aware and alive now than I had ever been in my body. I immediately accepted this, and wanted to know where everybody was.

Grandma giggled. Her lips didn’t move, but her spirit giggled.

“Aren’t people supposed to meet me when I die?” I asked. “Aren’t there supposed to be people singing hallelujah and coming up to hug me and saying, ‘Welcome’?”

She giggled again, and I thought it was the most delightful giggle I had ever heard.

“Well,” she said, “everybody is quite busy. Come on. You have a lot to see,” and she reached out for my hand.

3. RaNelle Meets a Friend from a Lower Afterlife Realm

But I thought, “Wait, what about Jim?”

Jim was a friend who had been killed in an automobile accident several months earlier. If Grandma was here, maybe she could tell me what happened to him.

“What about Jim?” I said again, and then I saw him in the distance, walking toward us.

Instantly I wanted to run and embrace him, but my grandmother put out her arm and said, “No, you cannot.”

I was startled. There was a power in her words, and I knew I couldn’t oppose them. “Why not?” I asked.

“Because of the way he lived his life,” she said.

He had come closer now and had stopped ten or twelve feet away. He was dressed in jeans and a blue shirt that was unbuttoned to mid-chest. This was how he normally wore his shirts on Earth, but I thought, my goodness, that’s risqué. Do they let you dress like that in heaven? He smiled, and I could feel his happiness. Although he didn’t possess the same kind of light or power that my grandmother did, he seemed content. He gave me a message to give to his mother, asking that I tell her to stop grieving over his death, to let her know that he was happy and progressing.

He explained that he had made certain decisions in life that had hindered his growth on Earth. He had made the decisions knowing they were wrong, and now he was willing to accept their consequences. When he was thrown from the van that he and his wife and a friend had been in, his head had hit a rock, and he had been killed instantly. When he got to the other side, he was given a choice to stay in the spirit or return to Earth. He could see that his growth on Earth had come to a stop and that if he returned he might lose even that light which he had gained. So he chose to stay.

He asked me to explain this to his mother, and I said I would, not knowing how I would accomplish it since I had no thought of going back myself. Then he said that he had a lot of work waiting for him, and he turned and left. I could tell that he was very busy, very engaged in matters that were vital to him, that would help him, though I didn’t know what they were. I looked at my grandmother and asked why she had prevented me from embracing him. She explained that this was a part his of “damnation”.

4. RaNelle Learns Heavenly Insights at the Speed of Light

“The powers we are given,” she explained, “are self-given. We grow by the force of our desires to learn, to love, to accept things by faith that we cannot prove. Our ability to accept truth, to live by it, governs our progress in the spirit, and it determines the degree of light we possess. Nobody forces light and truth upon us, and nobody takes it away unless we let them. We are self-governed and self-judged. We have total agency. Jim decided to limit his growth on Earth by rejecting things he knew were true. He hurt himself and others by using and selling drugs. Some of the people were hurt severely. He had various reasons for turning to drugs but the fact remains that he knew these things were wrong. He chose darkness over light often enough that he would not choose light again. And, now, to the degree that he became spiritually dark, he is consigned to a similar degree of darkness – or lack of light – here in the spirit. Yet he still has agency. He can grow. He can still find all the joy he is willing to accept, all that he is capable of receiving. But he knows that he does not have the same powers to progress and achieve joy that others with more light have. This is a part of damnation, because his progress is limited. But he is choosing to grow. And he is happy.

“The Lord never gives more challenges in life than can be handled,” she continued, “Rather than jeopardize someone’s spiritual progression or cause more suffering than can be endured, he will bring that spirit home, where he or she can continue progressing.”

All of this rang utterly true to me. She had communicated it with lightning speed, faster than computers can talk. It was instant and total knowing. I found that Grandmother and I could think on several levels at once and communicate them all simultaneously. You can’t know something without knowing everything around it, what causes it, what sustains it. Knowledge dovetails in the spirit world, each piece fitting with other pieces. Every fact connected to it is seen instantly, in totality. We have nothing like it on Earth. We can’t even approach it. Our knowledge and ability to communicate is like a child’s who hasn’t yet learned a language. We struggle to communicate, but we don’t possess the tools. We’re like little children.

My grandmother held out her hand and said, “Come quickly.”

I reached out to take it and stopped. “Wow,” I said. “Look at my hand.”

My hand was clear, like transparent gel, but there was light coursing through it like clear blood. But, the light didn’t run in irregular patterns as it would in veins; rather, the light shot through my hands like rays or beams. My whole hand sparkled with light. I looked down and saw that my feet also sparkled with light. And I noticed again that they weren’t burned. My feet and hands were perfect and whole. They radiated this glistening, beaming light, and I looked at my grandmother and saw that her light was brighter than mine. Every part of her was more brilliant. Even her dress was glowing white. And I recognized the dress. It was the dress that she had been buried in. My mother had bought it for her funeral. I thought about what Jim had been wearing, and I understood that people there wear what they want to wear. They wear what they’re comfortable in, and I knew that my grandmother must have loved this dress my mother bought for her. Although she had never worn it in life, Grandma was wearing it now, and she was radiant.

Moments later we were walking, holding hands, and the most beautiful panorama I had ever beheld opened before us.

5. The Heavenly Garden and Its Sustaining Love

A garden cannot exist on Earth like the one I saw. I had been in gardens in California that had taken my breath away, but they were stuck into insignificance by the scene before me now. Here was an endless vista of grass rolling away into shining, radiant hills. We have never seen green in our world like the deep, shimmering green of the grass that grew there. Every blade was crisp, strong, and charged with light. Every blade was unique and perfect and seemed to welcome me into this miraculous place.

And the whole garden was singing. The flowers, grass, trees, and other plants filled this place with glorious tones and rhythms and melodies; yet I didn’t hear the music itself. I could feel it somehow on a level beyond my hearing. As my grandmother and I stopped a moment to marvel at the magnificent scene, I said to myself, “Everything here seems to be singing,” which was woefully inadequate to describe what I felt. We simply don’t have language that adequately communicates the beauty of that world.

I noticed something unusual about the flowers near us. My grandmother waved her arm and, without speaking, commanded them to come to her. Although it was a command, the flowers took joy in obeying her. They floated through the air and came to a stop, suspended within the circle of her arms. The bouquet was alive. Each blossom was able to communicate, react, and actually enlighten others near it. “Grandma,” I said, “they have no stems.”

“Why should they have stems?” she said. “Flowers on Earth need stems to receive nourishment, to grow to their fullest potential. Everything God has made is spiritual and is designed to grow towards it own spiritual potential. A flower reaches its fullness in the blossom. Here everything exists in its fullest form. These flowers have no need of stems.”

“But they just float.”

“Should they fall? Everything here is perfect.”

She took one of the flowers and handed it to me. “Isn’t that beautiful?” she said.

The whole blossom was filled with various shades of light, and its beauty was incredible. Then the flower became part of me. Its soul merged with mine. It experienced everything I was doing, or had done before. It was acutely aware of me, and at the same time it changed me with its delicate spirit, with its own existence and life. It affected my feelings, my thoughts, my identity. It was me. I was it. The joy that came from this union was more pervasive and delicious and fulfilling than any I had known until that moment, and I wanted to cry. The scriptures say that one day all things shall be as one. That statement has great power for me now. My grandmother commanded the flowers to return, and they floated gently back to their places just above the ground. The one in my hands also returned, but its essence remained with me.

“All this comes from God, and the power to sustain it comes from him. It is the power of his love. Just as the plant life on Earth needs soil, water, and light for nourishment, spiritual life needs love. All creation springs from God’s love, and everything he creates has the capacity to love in turn. Light, truth, and life are all created in love and are sustained by love. God gives it love. We give it love. You give it love. And thus creation grows. And, RaNelle,” she said, “I love you!”

As she said the words, I felt her love charge into my being, filling me with incredible warmth and joy. This was life. This was true existence. There had been nothing like it on Earth. I felt the plants loving me, the sky, the fragrances, everything. And as I received my grandmother’s words and this love, I knew that now I would be responsible to increase and heighten all love around me, whatever my circumstances. She was teaching me love, its definition, its extent and power, not just so I could take pleasure in receiving it, but so I could express it to others. I was being filled with love in order to become a source of love.

My grandmother took my hand, and as we walked through the garden she explained some of the basic purposes of our life on Earth, the need to live the golden rule, the need to help others, the necessity of a savior, the need to read scriptures and have faith, and I said, “Grandma, I already know this; I learned it all in Sunday school. Why are you teaching it to me again.”

She spoke simply, “It is within the simple principles of the gospel that the mysteries of heaven are found.”

What was she saying? I couldn’t see any mysteries in her words. I felt her immense love, but I could see no purpose in teaching me principles that had come clear to me years before. Yet she continued, reiterating the importance of basic goodness, religion, the power of repentance, things anybody can learn in the Bible. I listened, my frustration growing as we walked up the side of a hill. We came to the top, and I said, “Grandma, I know all that. I really do. Teach me more.”

“You’re not ready.”

“Yes, I am, Grandma. I’m ready for much more.”

“No, you don’t believe the basics yet. You lack faith.”

“What is it I don’t believe? How do I lack faith?”

Oh, but she knew me. She knew me better than I could have imagined. As we stood on the bluff overlooking a small valley, I saw a scene that changed me forever. The scene was sacred beyond words, beyond expression, and those who have witnessed it keep it hidden in their hearts. I saw that I had indeed lacked faith, that love isn’t simply a word or an emotion; love is a power that gives action to all around it. Love is the power of life. This was a turning point for me, something that allowed all of my understanding and love to magnify, but I can never share the details here except to say that I know that love between people here can be eternal. I felt Grandma beaming with happiness. I had passed a test. Grandma took my hand, and we traveled quickly over the landscape. I looked down at the ground flying under us. We streaked like a beam of light across this immense spiritual world then moved upward into space, traveling even faster.

6. The Floodgates of Knowledge Overwhelm RaNelle

Floodgates of knowledge opened, and truth poured into me without end or constraint. Its source was the light and truth all around me, and it was clarified, or explained at my level, by my grandmother. She gave me knowledge about God, life, the creation of the world, and even the reaches of eternity. The truths were comprehensive and complete and rushed upon me in such enormous volume that I thought my head would explode. It was coming too fast. I wanted to be able to absorb it, to remember it all, but it was too much.

“I can’t take this!” I said. “Stop!”

Instantly all communication ceased and we came to a standstill. My grandmother looked at me and I felt her surprise.

“Why are you doing this?” she asked.

“I can’t handle all you’re giving me. How can I possibly retain it all?”

“RaNelle, don’t worry about it,” she said to me. “Let go of the fear. Don’t doubt yourself. You will recall things as you need them, and they will be brought to your memory by the Spirit. Have faith. Believe in the power of God.”

Then I understood what had become the greatest block to my growth in life: fear. It had plagued me all my years, had stopped my progress, cut short my attempts at working through problems. Fear had limited my enjoyment of life and it was blocking me now. When I feared, my powers of travel, understanding and progression became paralyzed.

“Don’t fear this,” I said to myself. “Let go.”

And we were traveling again, knowledge pouring into me faster than ever.

Scene after scene of living truth passed through me: history on Earth, history of our existence before Earth, principles, facts, things that I had had no conception of. I saw them. I experienced them, literally becoming part of each scene.

I saw that we all stood before our Father before coming to Earth, brothers and sisters in eternity. I experienced this anew, just as I had experienced it in my own pre-mortal life. I saw that we chose to come here, to face trials and to gain the experience of this Earth. I saw that we elected to follow a savior who would redeem us from the sins of our mortal lives and bring us back to our Father. I felt love and joy sweep over me again as we accepted Jesus Christ as savior. Then we raised our right arms, just as we might in a court of law, and we made a sacred covenant with God that we would do all in our power to accomplish our missions on Earth. And I felt the tremendous honor of making this covenant before our Heavenly Father. We vowed, in effect, to become partners with him in bringing about goodness on Earth. We promised to use our time and energies and talents to help bring about the savior’s full purposes, to help bring our brothers and sisters back to him and to our Father again. I saw that our God knew each of us individually. He knew our hearts, our souls, and he loved us unconditionally. It was as though he spent unmeasured time with each of us, counseling us, loving us. Time did not exist; each of us had always had a relationship with Him.

7. RaNelle Meets Her Eternal Heavenly Friends

I saw that the people standing beside me on that occasion were people who would play an integral part in my life on Earth. We were connected to each other in vital ways. If one of us were to fail in his or her mission, all of us would be hurt in some way. If one succeeded, we would all benefit. It was as if we were part of a puzzle with millions of pieces. It was put together perfectly, but if one piece were removed, we all would be lacking and would not be content until that piece was found and returned to its rightful place. We needed each other. We still do, and always will. I believe that it is impossible here to imagine the grief of a brother or sister who is lost from that grand family organization. Many other events of eternity passed through me. I seemed to bathe in them, to become them. They were infused into my soul. And I know that all this knowledge is with me yet, some of which I remember, such as making the covenant with our Father, and some of which I am waiting to remember.

I asked my grandmother if I could visit my friends, the ones I had cherished throughout eternity. She said some of them were still on Earth and that I would not be able to see them. I asked for the others, and instantly they came to me, beautiful people of light and love. I remembered them and their names. Some had already lived on Earth and died, and some had not yet been born. All the memories of my existence before Earth came back to me, but I was told that I would not retain them, that they were for this place only. I accepted that, and my friends came and embraced me, welcoming me back. My friends embraced me again and committed to stay with me. I felt their perfect love and knew they would never leave me. One female friend lingered and embraced me for a long time. She seemed bonded to me in a unique way, but I didn’t quite understand what it was.

“You know I’ve always been with you,” she said. “I’ve never left you. And I never will.”

She hung on every word I said, and I was moved as I recognized her passion to be with me, her absolute devotion and love.

“I’ll always be there,” she said again.

My grandmother took my hand, and we found ourselves in the garden again, traveling above another beautiful hillside. Everything was harmonious, perfect, like sweet music. She waved her arm, and we stopped above another high hill, and I saw millions of people before us.

“These are the spirits of those that have died,” she said. “They are waiting for the work to be done. They’re waiting for those on Earth to finish their part of the work.”

“Their part of the work?” I asked. “What work?”

She showed me that the people were organized into family units.

“You committed yourself to giving your time and talents on Earth to further the work of the Lord. You need these people, and they need you. We are all dependent upon one another.”

My life review had already pointed out how remiss I had been in serving others. Now I saw that there was much I could do, sharing, sacrificing, offering what I have. The spirits of those who have died are waiting for each of us to come closer to the truth, to become part of the complete puzzle again, to recognize the divinity of God and live in his light. Before moving on I saw that each person wore clothing from his or her own time period on Earth. As with my friend, Jim, they wore what they were comfortable in.

8. RaNelle Sees Her Burned Body and Told to Return

Grandma waved her arm and the ground opened before us. I looked and saw a person lying on a hospital bed surrounded by doctors and nurses. The person’s face was bandaged.

“You will never be the same, RaNelle,” Grandma said. “Your face will be altered and your body filled with pain. When you go back, you will have years of rehabilitation …”

“When I go back?” I looked at her. “You expect me to go back?”

Sudden understanding came, and I looked at the person on the bed. The arms were spread wide, and both arms and hands had been sliced in several places to allow the fluids to drain into plastic bags. “Is that me?” I was horrified.

“Yes, RaNelle, it is you. You will be badly scarred.”

I became frantic. “Grandma, I’m not going back.”

“Your children need you, RaNelle.”

“No, no they don’t. They’re better off with someone else. I can’t give them what they need.”

“It’s not just your children, RaNelle. You have things to do – things that aren’t finished yet.”

“No, I’m better off here. I don’t want to go through all that.” I pointed to my body. “I refuse. I want to stay here.”

I sensed my grandmother’s awareness that time was growing short. “You must go,” she said. “Your mission isn’t complete.”

9. RaNelle Meets Her Future Son Nathaniel

“No, I’m not returning to that body! I’m not going back.”

In response, my grandmother swept out her arm and commanded: “Look!”

A rift opened in the space before us, and I saw a young man walking toward us. At first he didn’t seem to understand why he was there. Then he saw me and looked stunned.

“Why are you here?” he said almost in disbelief.

As I remained silent, his disbelief changed to grief, and he began crying. I felt his grief, his sadness, and I too began crying. What’s the matter?” I asked. “Why are you crying?” I put my arms around him, trying to comfort him.

“Why are you here?” he repeated.

Then I understood that my refusal to go back to Earth was causing his sadness. I belonged on Earth for him, I understood, and I immediately felt guilt for my selfishness. His name was Nathaniel, and he hadn’t been born on Earth yet. He said that if I didn’t go back, his own mission would be hindered. Then he showed me his mission, and I saw that I was to open doors for him, to help him, to encourage him.

“I will complete as much of my mission as I can,” he said, “but I will never fulfill it without you. I need you.”

I thought my heart would break. I was a part of his puzzle, and I was hurting him and everyone he would help by refusing to go back to Earth. I felt a great love for this young man, and I wanted to help him in every way I could.

“Oh, Nathaniel,” I said, “I swear to you that I will help you. I will go back, and I promise that I will do everything I can to do my part. I will open those doors for you. I will protect and encourage you. I will give you everything I have. Nathaniel, you will complete your mission. I love you.”

His grief was replaced with gratitude. His face lit up, and I saw the great spirit he was. He was crying now with gratitude and joy. “Thank you,” he said. “Oh, I love you.”

My grandmother took my hand and drew me away. Nathaniel watched me leave, still smiling, and I distinctly heard him say, “I love you, Mom.” My spirit was thrilled, but I couldn’t respond to him, as things began happening very quickly.

“RaNelle,” Grandmother said, “there is one more thing I need to say to you. Tell everybody that the key is love.”

“The key is love,” she repeated. “The key is love,” she said a third time.

Then she let go of my hand, and the word love reverberated in my mind as I left her and fell into a deep blackness. I was crying as I left the world of light and glory and love. The last thing I saw was her outstretched hand.

[RaNelle’s near-death experience ends when she returns to her burned body in the hospital. About seven years after her NDE, she gave birth to a son whom she gave the name Nathaniel. She says she often sees the same facial expressions on him as the Nathaniel she met in heaven.]

Ned Dougherty’s Near-Death Experience

In his mid-thirties, Ned Dougherty (pronounced “Dock-erty”) had everything: money, women, property, prestige, and power. He was a real estate broker for twenty-six years owning popular nightclubs in Palm Beach, Florida, and the Hampton’s – Long Island’s exclusive playground for the rich and famous. He lived in the fast lane every hour of the day, pursuing every pleasure money could buy. Despite his religious upbringing as a Roman Catholic, he had no interest in a spiritual life because he didn’t believe in an afterlife. He was too busy searching for a good time to be bothered with such things. This all changed on July 2, 1984 when he had a near-death experience (NDE) resulting from a heart attack after a heated, almost murderous, fist fight with a business associate. Dougherty’s NDE caused him to undergo a radical life transformation in which he gave up his nightclub business, and party lifestyle, and embraced his hitherto neglected Catholic religion. His NDE gave him a conscious awareness of his mission in life which was to embark upon charitable and missionary work. During his NDE, a wonderful “Lady of Light” (whom he identified as the Virgin Mary) revealed to him future global catastrophes many of which have already occurred which you will read in this article. Today, Dougherty is a featured speaker, a former director and media spokesperson for the International Association for Near-Death Studies (IANDS.org). He also hosts End Times Daily – a Catholic news site focusing on eschatology – where he publishes interior locutions he has been receiving on a monthly basis since 2005. The following is an excerpt from his book, Fast Lane to Heaven: Celestial Encounters that Changed My Life, published in March of 2001, which documents his amazing NDE and visions of Earth’s future.

1. Ned Dougherty’s NDE and the Heavenly Amphitheater

[After Dougherty’s heart attack, he has an out-of-body experience while in the ambulance rushing him to the hospital.]

As a massive field of energy began to form in the sky directly in front of me, I heard a loud, grinding mechanical noise as the mass of energy shaped itself into a cylinder funneling upwards. It seemed as if the darkness of the sky turned into liquid as the mass of energy curled like an ocean wave and formed a perfect tunnel that stretched into the heavens.

As I stared into the large and imposing tunnel of energy, a shimmering, luminescent-blue field of energy began to float down the tunnel toward me. As it rapidly approached, I watched the luminescent-blue field mass into a form and begin to materialize into an image of a human being. As the image composed itself, I found myself face to face with an old friend. His name was Dan McCampbell, but I had never expected to see him again. After all, he had been killed in Vietnam.

As Dan and I communicated, I realized that we did not speak to each other as we had communicated in our earthly lives. As soon as I thought, “Dan, I recognize you,” it was communicated to him. We were communicating telepathically, which connotes a communication of words between minds by means other than by vocal communication, but such a description falls short of the spiritual communication we were experiencing. We were not only communicating with words; we were communicating with feelings and emotions. As we thought, we also emoted our thoughts. Both thoughts and emotions were being communicated telepathically and spiritually in a manner that far surpassed normal human communication. Dan communicated to me:

“You are on the threshold of an important journey. Each of these places and events that are before you are for you to absorb as much as you can. It is important that you remember everything that you see before you. You will be going back, and you must go back with what you experience. You have a mission ahead of you in your life, and this experience will guide you on that mission.”

Suddenly, I was enveloped in this brilliant golden light. The light was more brilliant than the light emanating from the sun, many times more powerful and radiant than the sun itself. Yet, I was not blinded by it nor was I burned by it. Instead, the light was a source of energy that embraced my being.

I was alone in the glow of this light and suspended before a magnificent presence. I immediately believed that I was in the presence of God, my Creator. I felt that God was embracing me, and he had love for me, a love greater than any love I had ever known on Earth. I realized that God was bestowing his light of love on me, as his light transformed from a brilliant golden light to a pure white light. As I became more accepting of God’s love, the light of God became brighter, of a pure whiteness beyond description. When I sensed that my spiritual being had received God’s love to the point of overflowing, I became aware that God was stabilizing and energizing my being in preparation for my mission. I realized that I would be returning to earthly life and that God was preparing and orienting me for that return.

God began to imbue me with universal knowledge. I realized that I had always thirsted for this knowledge and I wanted to absorb as much as I could. As I remained suspended in God’s light, I felt this knowledge penetrate and absorbed by my spiritual being. This knowledge was flowing through me in the same manner as God’s love, pulsating through my being. Dan was back at my side again. We descended together from God’s light into a universe of bright stars. We were again in the deepest void of space, but now I felt comfortable in this environment as well as in my spirit body, and I felt at home in this celestial location. As Dan and I continued to descend, I was startled by the magnificent ethereal structure directly below us. The heavenly structure resembled an amphitheater similar to those found in ancient civilizations. This amphitheater was made of a brilliant, crystal-like substance that radiated multi-colored waves of energy throughout its form. The amphitheater was suspended in the void of space in the same fashion that a space station might hover in space. The amphitheater was similar in size to a sports stadium and conveyed a great majesty.

As Dan and I descended closer to the amphitheater, I realized that it was filled with thousands of spiritual beings. We hovered directly over the structure, and I felt a vibrant energy envelop me. The energy seemed to come from the crystalline structure of the amphitheater. The lower we descended, the more I was drawn to the energy.

I sensed that the thousands of spiritual beings there were also absorbing this energy. They were sending out waves of energy to one another as well as to Dan and me. We were now descending onto the celestial field, which was surrounded by the large arc of the amphitheater. Although I first felt it as energy, I recognized that the energy emanating from the crystalline structure was also a symphonic sound.

Soon Dan and I were suspended in the center of the celestial field which meant that we were the focus of attention for the thousands of spiritual beings positioned throughout the amphitheater. Above, below, and behind us was the deep void of space. In front of us, thousands of spiritual beings were communicating, by musical sounds, feelings of goodwill to me. Their sounds of greeting were in harmony with the symphonic sounds of energy emanating from the amphitheater. Once I settled onto the celestial field, I could look directly into the crystalline surface of the amphitheater and watch as multi-colored prisms of light pulsated through the structure.

I was overwhelmed by the awesome sight before me, but the feelings of love that were conveyed to me by the spiritual beings were even more overwhelming. The spiritual beings were cheering me, conveying loving encouragement and support:

“You are doing wonderfully. We are here to support you. Continue to do good work, and we will help you. You are part of us, and we are part of you. We stand ready to come to your aid when you need us, and you will. Call us. Beckon us. We will flock to you when the time comes!”

Frankly, I was confused by all the attention. There wasn’t anything wonderful about the way I had conducted my life. Perhaps the spiritual beings were speaking of what was yet to come. They certainly could not have been speaking of earlier events in my life. I thought, “How can I be doing wonderfully? I almost killed someone tonight. Could I be justified in what I tried to do?” Dan interceded:

“You were spiritually rescued from a negative event that was taking place in your life. You just tried to communicate a negative thought concerning this event. You cannot speak of such things here. There are no negative thoughts here, only positive affirmations. They cannot hear you; they will not hear you when you speak or think in negativity. You must be positive to perform your mission.”

I turned to my right, realizing that a group of spiritual beings had joined us on the celestial field. This event was indeed a homecoming for me. Among the group of spiritual beings, I recognized deceased friends and relatives from my life. I also recognized other friends from my spiritual life prior to my birth on Earth. I was filled with joy when I recognized my grandparents, aunts, and uncles who had died during my life. However, I was disappointed because I did not see my Dad among the group. I then recognized other friends from my life, including a girl from high school. I did not know she had died. The feelings of love and joy that I shared with these relatives and friends were far beyond the emotions I had shared with them during my life. As the child of an alcoholic and broken home, I did not communicate feelings to relatives or friends very well. In fact, I wasn’t aware that I had many feelings. Most of my feelings were hidden inside.

Now that I was at my homecoming as a spiritual being, the greetings were the kind that I had imagined took place in a healthy family. It seemed as if we were celebrating every major holiday, every birth and birthday, every wonderful event in all of our lives in a manner that we could never celebrate as mortal human beings. I wanted this celebration and homecoming to continue forever, but a silence suddenly fell across the crowded amphitheater.

[Dougherty then experiences a life review in which he finds himself being the sole judge. Afterwards, a being whom Dougherty identifies as “the Lady of Light” reveals to him his own personal future of creating a “Mission of Angels” as well as prophecies regarding the future of the world.]

2. The Hall of Records and Ned Dougherty’s Visions of Earth’s Future

As the movie-like scenes of my future life ended, I found myself in a building, which became known to me as the Hall of Records. I was sitting on a marble bench and waiting. From there I could look outdoors through a large opening at the side of the room. I could see columns of large pillars supporting an archway of the building in which I sat. In front of the columns, there was a long stairway leading to a large open courtyard. I sensed that I was in this great and magnificent structure on Earth, only during another time period. The architecture and design of the building led me to conclude that this place was probably in ancient Egypt. However, as I did not see any other beings or human activity I concluded I was still in the celestial realm.

The Lady of Light appeared in the room before me. She stood next to a large globe of Earth, which was suspended in a large circular frame attached to the marble floor. The Lady of Light began to speak to me about the future of the world as she pointed to the globe. I watched as she pointed to the Middle East, and I saw a flashpoint of light. She then pointed to Italy, and I saw another flashpoint. Then flashpoints broke out rapidly throughout the Middle East and Europe representing major incidents, world events caused by mankind: acts of aggression, terrorism, and war. Fanatical, self-proclaimed religious groups supposedly acting in the name of God performed many of these acts, but I was told that acts of war and aggression were not part of God’s plan.

I was shown a vision of a large plateau in the Middle East. The plateau was surrounded by a dusty, dry, and barren region that seemed to be deserted and devoid of any life. I was told that future events at this location in the Middle East would start a chain reaction of man-made catastrophic events, first in the Middle East, then in Africa and Europe, followed by events in Russia and China.

The Lady of Light showed me another scene of Earth suspended in space. I watched as the axis of Earth’s rotation began to shift significantly. I could not tell how much time the shift took, nor was I shown a time or date when it would take place. I could tell that significant geophysical changes to the Earth’s surface would take place as a result of the shifting of Earth’s axis. Great earthquakes erupted throughout the world, significantly changing the major continents. There were volcanic eruptions of great magnitude spewing clouds of billowing smoke and ash throughout the atmosphere, sending the Earth into a period of darkness. Great floods resulted from melting and shifting polar ice caps. Many low-lying land areas were engulfed by huge tidal waves. I watched scenes of these events taking place, depicted like black and white movies. I watched one scene from a hilltop location on the coastline of Long Island, New York, as rows of massive tidal waves descended on the coastline, burying the land under the water. I saw another scene from a street corner in New York City. A wall of water rushed down the wide street as surrounding office buildings began to collapse. In another scene, I watched as a massive wall of water hit the coastline of Miami Beach. In its wake, I watched as an entirely new land mass rose up out of the ocean.

The Lady of Light told me that none of these future events would have to take place if mankind began to recognize and work with God’s plan. The Lady of Light told me:

“The way to understand and work with God’s plan is through prayer and meditation, through prayer to call to God, and through meditation to receive His message.”

I was told that the world could be saved, not by its leaders, but by prayer groups throughout the world. I was told that the prayers of a group of twenty could save a nation from war. I was told that the fate of mankind rested on our ability, individually and collectively, to change the direction of mankind in accordance with God’s plan.

[At this point, Dougherty meets an incredible-looking being he refers to as “The Magnificent Man” who fits the description of Jesus Christ wearing a white flowing robe, having long-flowing and slightly curling auburn hair and a closely trimmed beard, and is preoccupied with little children.]

A flood of questions raced through my mind as I was shown events that I understood were to take place on Earth in the future, during the “End Times.” I was aware of the presence of the Lady of Light, visible to my right, viewing the scenes that were before me. I realized that the Lady of Light was also influencing my viewing of the scenes of the End Times. As I focused on her, I recognized her place and prominence in the sequence of events that were to take place during the End Times. I was aware that the earthly landscape of mountainside and valley was visible beyond the vastness of space that represented the End Times. In other words, I was being shown an earthly landscape that would exist following the End Times. I recognized that the End Times did not mean the end of the world. It meant the end of the world as we know it, but it also meant the beginning of a new world. I perceived that the earthly landscape in the distance was part of the new world, but it seemed so far away – barely discernible, almost mystical, like a dream world.

[The Lady of Light then shows Dougherty the wonderful future paradise that Earth will become after these great traumatic geophysical changes occur to Earth and its inhabitance. After this, Ned Dougherty’s NDE ends and his new mission in life begins.]

3. Ned Dougherty’s NDE Prophecy of the September 11, 2001 Terrorist Attack

During his NDE, Dougherty received many visions (prophecies) of the future from the Lady of Light – one of which came true six months after his book Fast Lane to Heaven was published in March of 2001. The prophecy revealed to Dougherty is as follows:

“A major terrorist attack may befall New York City or Washington, DC, severely impacting the way we live in the United States.” (page 253, Fast Lane to Heaven, March 2001)

This prophecy no doubt refers to the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack in New York and Washington D.C. This is just one of the prophecies given to Dougherty during his NDE. Other prophecies he received are included further down this article. Other near-death experiencers, such as Dannion Brinkley, were also given visions of a terrorist attack in New York and Washington. It is not uncommon for near-death experiencers to receive visions of the future. One experiencer, P.M.H. Atwater received a vision of the September 11th terrorist attacks the day after it occurred which is documented in her free downloadable PDF file entitled The Challenge of September 11: A Memorial. In this short ebook, she describes her vision of the “wave of souls” that left the planet at the time it occurred:

“Wednesday morning, September 12th, and again in spirit form, I entered that state where the inner planes of the spirit realms are fully visible… Instead of finding the confusion and disarray of the previous day, I was surprised to observe the departed souls forming a huge oscillating wave the shape of a “hand” stretching upward. They were coming together as if one energy mass and they were “waking up,” becoming aware of what had happened to them the terrorists and their victims alike for the shock-blast from the cataclysm had first numbed, then snapped the assemblage out of the trance they had been in.” (P.M.H. Atwater, The Challenge of September 11: A Memorial)

4. Other NDE Prophecies of the Future Given to Ned Dougherty

a. Religious fanatics will ignite wars around the globe (Fast Lane to Heaven, pages 77, 251-252)

As mentioned earlier in his NDE, Dougherty sees a future vision of “Fanatical, self-proclaimed religious groups supposedly acting in the name of God performed many of these acts, but I was told that acts of war and aggression were not part of God’s plan.” He was shown a vision of a dry, dusty, barren region of the Middle East that would give rise to a chain reaction of man-made catastrophic events, first in the Middle East, then in Africa and Europe, followed by events in Russia and China. This is obviously related to the ISIS war in Syria.

b. The Earth’s axis will shift causing severe natural disasters (Fast Lane to Heaven, page 254)

The Lady of Light then showed Dougherty a vision of the Earth suspended in space. He watched as Earth’s axis shifted and could not tell when it began or how long it took. But he clearly observed the geophysical changes: great earthquakes erupting throughout the world changing the shapes of the major continents, and volcanic smoke and ash billowing into the atmosphere. He watched black and white movies of these events. Edgar Cayce, the so-called “Sleeping Prophet,” also predicted a shift in the Earth’s magnetic field. According to NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, in 1998 something changed the Earth’s gravitational field which moved the magnetic poles closer together. The NASA article explained that as the ice on the poles melted, ocean currents moved water toward the equator, which factors researchers believe to be partly responsible, in conjunction with shifts in atmospheric patterns, for this ongoing shift in the Earth’s magnetic field. This NASA finding affirms both Dougherty’s and Cayce’s prediction of a pole shift.

c. A massive tidal wave will hit the coastline of Long Island and New York City, then Miami Beach (Fast Lane to Heaven, page 78, 253-254)

It is very possible that the massive tidal wave predicted in Dougherty’s vision of the future might be related to the threat posed by the collapse of Cumbre Vieja in the Cabary Islands. This prophecy closely parallels a hypothesis connecting the eruption of Cumbre Vieja to an eschatological earthquake described in various places throughout the Bible associated with the Second Coming of Christ. After his NDE, Dougherty learned of this threat posed by Cumbre Vieja, and traveled to La Palma in the Canary Islands to investigate the area for himself. He is now convinced that the prophecy he witnessed during his NDE is directly related to the threat posed by the collapse of Cumbre Vieja in the Canary Islands. See this related article about a mega-tsunami which shows how this event appears to be the “huge mountain, burning with fire” being thrown into the sea, as described in the Book of Revelation (Revelation 8:8). In his book, Dougherty also discusses the apparitions at Turzovka in 1958 which also appear to predict massive tidal waves generated by a volcanic collapse. See also this article entitled The Casting Down of Mountains, which acts as a hub-page for the various passages in the Bible which may foretell this future event.

d. A new land mass will arise out of the ocean (Fast Lane to Heaven, page 78)

The Lady of Light revealed to Dougherty during his NDE that when massive tidal waves hit both the eastern and western coastlines of the U.S. “an entirely new land mass rose up out of the ocean.” This prophecy agrees with those of Edgar Cayce who predicted that the ancient continent of Atlantis will rise someday in the future.

e. China will become a threat to global peace (Fast Lane to Heaven, page 252)

“The greatest threat to global peace and preservation will come from China, which is preparing itself for global war and domination by building the largest army in the world, prophetically referred to in the book of Revelation as the army of “two hundred million.” Under the guise of population control, China has been systematically exterminating unborn female babies in favor of males in order to breed an army capable of dominating the world. The Lady of Light specifically told me, “Pray for the conversion of China. The conversion of China to God is necessary for the salvation of the world.” (Fast Lane to Heaven, page 252)

The greatest threat, he was shown, would come from China and a “two hundred million army” (see Revelation 9:13-18). The Lady of Light specifically told him to: “Pray for the conversion of China. The conversion of China to God is necessary for the salvation of the world.” He says the phenomena he has seen is similar to what he later learned about the apparitions of Mary at Zeitoun, Egypt, where was also called “the Lady of Light.” This also brings to mind the apparitions of Mary at Fatima, Portugal, where nearly a hundred years ago she expressed an almost identical concern about a similar threat from Communist Russia.

f. The U.S. government will collapse leaving the country vulnerable to attack by China (Fast Lane to Heaven, page 253)

“The United States government will fail to meet its financial obligations as a result of its staggering national debt and will collapse. As a result of the destruction of U.S. military bases from natural disasters, the United States will lose its ability to wage war or defend itself, leaving the country vulnerable to invasion by foreign troops, particularly by China’s “army of two hundred million.” (Fast Lane to Heaven, page 253)

5. About Ned Dougherty’s Messages from Heaven

Ned Dougherty has been receiving interior locutions from Jesus, Mary, and St. Michael the Archangel since August 1, 2005. He usually receives interior information several days before the monthly messages instructing him as to the geographic location where he will be receiving the message(s). On the morning of the 1st of the month or occasionally on the 2nd day of the month, he awakens with an interior knowledge as to the time that he will receive the message(s). Upon presenting himself at the time and place designated, he prays and meditates while having his laptop computer ready to transcribe the interior locutions. Ned Dougherty is a practicing Roman Catholic and usually attends daily Mass. His Spiritual Director is Reverend Paul Lehman.

Concerning messages from other people on his site, he writes, “There are many messengers, seers, and visionaries worldwide who claim to receive messages from spiritual entities or interior locutions. To submit your own message, the following is required: (1) Initially, the messenger must be clearly identified by first and last name; (2) maintain a website or have a recognized and visible presence on other website locations; (3) and have an identified spiritual director. It is the responsibility of the reader/viewer of these messages to initiate their own individual discernment process in choosing to receive these messages, taking into account that this website provides only minimal criteria for acceptance. Due to the fact that a reader/viewer’s discernment process will necessarily include knowledge of the messenger, any “anonymous” messages or sources will not be accepted.

Mellen-Thomas Benedict’s Near-Death Experience

In 1982 Mellen-Thomas (died 2017) suffered from terminal brain cancer and died; but miraculously lived to tell about it. While showing no vital signs for 90 minutes, Benedict had perhaps the most transcendental NDE ever documented. While on the Other Side, Benedict journeyed through various afterlife realms and was given access to Universal Intelligence by which he was allowed to absorb a tremendous amount of spiritual and scientific knowledge including the nature of reincarnation. Benedict’s enthusiastic curiosity during his NDE took him far into the remote depths of existence – and even beyond – into the energetic void of nothingness behind the Big Bang. He was shown in holographic detail the evolution of both Mother Earth (“Gaia”) and humanity and experienced the cosmology of our soul’s connection with Gaia. He was given knowledge about humanity’s role in the Universe including a beautiful vision of humanity’s future for the next 400 years. Deepak Chopra, in his book “Life after Death: The Burden of Proof,” recounts Benedict’s journey at length and says, “Mellen is an encyclopedia of the afterlife.” In the view of the webmaster of this site, on this web page you will read the most inspirational NDE ever documented.

1. About Mellen-Thomas Benedict

Mellen-Thomas Benedict’s NDE resulted in perhaps the greatest fundamental transformation of any near-death experiencer ever documented. Miraculously, Benedict returned to his body with a complete remission of the disease. The advanced scientific knowledge he brought back from his NDE led him to numerous scientific discoveries and U.S. and foreign patents (see www.lighthealthresearch.com). Ever since his NDE, Benedict has maintained his direct access to Universal Intelligence, and returns to the Light at will. This enables him to be a bridge between science and spirit and allows him to develop new technologies for health and wellness. Benedict discovered living cells can respond very quickly to light stimulation resulting in, among other things, high speed healing. NDE expert Dr. Kenneth Ring says of Benedict:

“Mellen-Thomas has the big picture. His story is one of the most remarkable I have encountered in extensive research on near-death experiences. It is very rare that those who have died and returned have seen into the future to the extent that Mellen has. His vision of the future is one of hope. He has participated in studies of a major university where he contributed to understanding the structure of genes and chromosome coding for a genetic disease, while researchers puzzled over how he could have access to this information.” – Dr. Kenneth Ring

Dr. Janice Holden of International Association of Near Death Studies (IANDS) says of Benedict:

“Mellen-Thomas, under hypnosis, was able to give accurate information about and draw the genetic makeup of a rare neuromuscular disease. I was astounded by this. It’s not the kind of thing where one could cheat.” – Dr. Janice Holden

Benedict has been closely involved in the research area of Quantum Biology – the quantum relationship between light and life. Benedict has discovered how living cells can respond very quickly to light stimulation resulting in, among other things, high speed healing. His research is providing dramatic new perspectives on how biological systems work. He is also a technology and product consultant and a popular lecturer on the subjects of longevity, energy medicine, and phototherapy.

During his NDE, Benedict was given the names of several people whose discoveries would one day be seen as on a par with those of Newton or Einstein. One of the names given to him was “Cleve Backster.” After having his NDE, Benedict tracked him down. Cleve Backster, see www.primaryperception.com, is best known for his experiments with biocommunication in plant and animal cells using a polygraph machine in the 1960s which led to his theory of “primary perception.” Cleve Backster’s study was partially replicated in 1973 by Dr. Harold Puthoff and Russell Targ of CIA remote-viewing “Stargate Project” fame at the Stanford Research Institute. Puthoff and Targ applied for and received a research grant to probe plant sensitivity. In 1973, they began to conduct plant and human consciousness research on the “Backster Effect.” The product culminated in a final report called “Organic Biofield Sensor” by H. E. Puthoff and R. Fontes.

Benedict says in about 200 years Cleve Backster will be seen as a kind of “saint” to the Gaia-based spirituality which will dominate society at that time. Cleve Backster’s work is neither esoteric nor spiritual, but scientific. His book is entitled, “Primary Perception: Biocommunication with Plants, Living Foods, and Human Cells” and his original work is described in the book, “The Secret Life of Plants.” See also Cleve Backster’s Wikipedia page.

Benedict’s NDE is reprinted here by the permission of his friends Dr. Lee Worth Bailey and Jenny Yates. Their excellent book entitled The Near-Death Experience: A Reader, published by Routledge, New York, in 1996, is highly recommended by the webmaster. A portion of his near-death experience also appears in P.M.H. Atwater‘s book, Beyond the Light. Atwater is the one who introduced Benedict to the near-death community.

Concerning the validity of Benedict’s testimony, P.M.H. Atwater has this to say:

“I can attest that his case is genuine and his claims about the brain tumor and the conditions of his death are true. I have met his mother and step-father, been in his and their homes, and have followed his life since – his struggles and his accomplishments – as he sought to find a way to integrate his experience into his daily life while still honoring the mission he felt guided to fulfill.” – P.M.H. Atwater

2. The Road to Death

In 1982 I died from terminal cancer. The condition I had was inoperable, and any kind of chemotherapy they could give me would just have made me more of a vegetable. I was given six to eight months to live. I had been an information freak in the 1970’s, and I had become increasingly despondent over the nuclear crisis, the ecology crisis, and so forth. So, since I did not have a spiritual basis, I began to believe that nature had made a mistake, and that we were probably a cancerous organism on the planet. I saw no way that we could get out from all the problems we had created for ourselves and the planet. I perceived all humans as cancer, and that is what I got. That is what killed me. Be careful what your world view is. It can feed back on you, especially if it is a negative world view. I had a seriously negative one.

That is what led me into my death. I tried all sort s of alternative healing methods, but nothing helped. So I determined that this was really just between me and God. I had never really faced God before, or even dealt with God. I was not into any kind of spirituality at the time, but I began a journey into learning about spirituality and alternative healing. I set out to do all the reading I could and bone up on the subject, because I did not want to be surprised on the other side. So I started reading on various religions and philosophies. They were all very interesting, and gave hope that there was something on the other side. I ended up in hospice care.

I remember waking up one morning at home about 4:30 am and I just knew that this was it. This was the day I was going to die. So I called a few friends and said goodbye. I woke up my hospice caretaker and told her. I had a private agreement with her that she would leave my dead body alone for six hours, since I had read that all kinds of interesting things happen when you die. I went back to sleep. The next thing I remember is the beginning of a typical near death experience. Suddenly I was fully aware and I was standing up, but my body was in the bed. There was this darkness around me. Being out of my body was even more vivid than ordinary experience. It was so vivid that I could see every room in the house, I could see the top of the house, I could see around the house, I could see under the house.

3. The Light of God

There was this Light shining. I turned toward the Light. The Light was very similar to what many other people have described in their near-death experiences. It was so magnificent. It is tangible; you can feel it. It is alluring; you want to go to it like you would want to go to your ideal mother’s or father’s arms. As I began to move toward the Light, I knew intuitively that if I went to the Light, I would be dead. So as I was moving toward the Light I said, “Please wait a minute, just hold on a second here. I want to think about this; I would like to talk to you before I go.” To my surprise, the entire experience halted at that point. You are indeed in control of your near-death experience. You are not on a roller coaster ride.

So my request was honored and I had some conversations with the Light. The Light kept changing into different figures, like Jesus, Buddha, Krishna, mandalas, archetypal images and signs. I asked the Light, “What is going on here? Please, Light, clarify yourself for me. I really want to know the reality of the situation.” I cannot really say the exact words, because it was sort of telepathy.

The Light responded. The information transferred to me was that your beliefs shape the kind of feedback you are getting before the Light. If you were a Buddhist or Catholic or Fundamentalist, you get a feedback loop of your own stuff. You have a chance to look at it and examine it, but most people do not. As the Light revealed itself to me, I became aware that what I was really seeing was our Higher Self matrix.

We all have a higher Self, or an oversoul part of our being. It revealed itself to me in its truest energy form. The only way I can really describe it is that the being of the higher Self is more like a conduit. It did not look like that, but it is a direct connection to the Source that each and every one of us has. We are directly connected to the Source. So the Light was showing me the higher Self matrix. I was not committed to one particular religion. So that is what was being fed back to me during my life after death experience. As I asked the Light to keep clearing for me, to keep explaining, I understood what the higher Self matrix is. We have a grid around the planet where all the higher Selves are connected. This is like a great company, a next subtle level of energy around us, the spirit level, you might say. Then, after a couple of minutes, I asked for more clarification. I really wanted to know what the universe is about, and I was ready to go at that time. I said, “I am ready, take me.”

4. The River of Life

Then the Light turned into the most beautiful thing that I have ever seen: a mandala of human souls on this planet. Now I came to this with my negative view of what has happened on the planet. So as I asked the Light to keep clarifying for me, I saw in this magnificent mandala how beautiful we all are in our essence, our core. We are the most beautiful creations. The human soul, the human matrix that we all make together is absolutely fantastic, elegant, exotic, everything. I just cannot say enough about how it changed my opinion of human beings in that instant. I said, “Oh, God, I did not know how beautiful we are.” At any level, high or low, in whatever shape you are in, you are the most beautiful creation, you are.

I was astonished to find that there was no evil in any soul. I said, “How can this be?” The answer was that no soul was inherently evil. The terrible things that happened to people might make them do evil things, but their souls were not evil. What all people seek, what sustains them, is love, the Light told me. What distorts people is a lack of love.

The revelations coming from the Light seemed to go on and on, then I asked the Light, “Does this mean that humankind will be saved?” Then, like a trumpet blast with a shower of spiraling lights, the Great Light spoke, saying:

“Remember this and never forget; you save, redeem and heal yourself. You always have. You always will. You were created with the power to do so from before the beginning of the world.”

In that instant I realized even more. I realized that WE HAVE ALREADY BEEN SAVED, and we saved ourselves because we were designed to self-correct like the rest of God’s universe. This is what the second coming is about. I thanked the Light of God with all my heart. The best thing I could come up with during my near death experience was these simple words of total appreciation: “Oh dear God, dear Universe, dear Great Self, I Love My Life.” The Light seemed to breathe me in even more deeply. It was as if the Light was completely absorbing me. The Love Light is, to this day, indescribable. I entered into another realm, more profound than the last, and became aware of something more, much more. It was an enormous stream of Light, vast and full, deep in the Heart of Life. I asked what this was. The Light responded:

“This is the RIVER OF LIFE. Drink of this manna water to your heart’s content.”

So I did. I took one big drink and then another. To drink of life Itself! I was in ecstasy.

Then the Light said: “You have a desire.”

The Light knew all about me, everything past, present and future.

“Yes!” I whispered.

I asked to see the rest of the Universe; beyond our solar system, beyond all human illusion. The Light then told me that I could go with the Stream. I did, and was carried through the Light at the end of the tunnel. I felt and heard a series of very soft sonic booms. What a rush!

Suddenly I seemed to be rocketing away from the planet on this stream of Life. I saw the earth fly away. The solar system, in all its splendor, whizzed by and disappeared. At faster than light speed, I flew through the center of the galaxy, absorbing more knowledge as I went. I learned that this galaxy, and all of the Universe, is bursting with many different varieties of LIFE. I saw many worlds. The good news is that we are not alone in this Universe!

As I rode this stream of consciousness through the center of the galaxy, the stream was expanding in awesome fractal waves of energy. The super clusters of galaxies with all their ancient wisdom flew by. At first I thought I was going somewhere; actually traveling. But then I realized that, as the stream was expanding, my own consciousness was also expanding to take in everything in the Universe! All creation passed by me. It was an unimaginable wonder! I truly was a Wonder Child; a babe in Wonderland!

5. The Void

At this point of my near-death experience, I found myself in a profound stillness, beyond all silence. I could see or perceive FOREVER, beyond Infinity. I was in the Void.

I was in pre-creation, before the Big Bang. I had crossed over the beginning of time / the First Word / the First vibration. I was in the Eye of Creation. I felt as if I was touching the Face of God. It was not a religious feeling. Simply, I was at one with Absolute Life and Consciousness. When I say that I could see or perceive forever, I mean that I could experience all of creation generating itself. It was without beginning and without end. That’s a mind-expanding thought, isn’t it? Scientists perceive the Big Bang as a single event that created the Universe. I saw during my life after death experience that the Big Bang is only one of an infinite number of Big Bangs creating Universes endlessly and simultaneously. The only images that even come close in human terms would be those created by super computers using fractal geometry equations.

The ancients knew of this. They said God had periodically created new Universes by breathing out, and recreated other Universes by breathing in. These epochs were called Yugas. Modern science called this the Big Bang. I was in absolute, pure consciousness. I could see or perceive all the Big Bangs or Yugas creating and recreating themselves. Instantly I entered into them all simultaneously. I saw that each and every little piece of creation has the power to create. It is very difficult to try to explain this. I am still speechless about this.

It took me years after I returned from my near-death experience to assimilate any words at all for the Void experience. I can tell you this now: the Void is less than nothing, yet more than everything that is! The Void is absolute zero; chaos forming all possibilities. It is Absolute Consciousness; much more than even Universal Intelligence. The Void is the vacuum or nothingness between all physical manifestations. The SPACE between atoms and their components. Modern science has begun to study this space between everything. They call it Zero point. Whenever they try to measure it, their instruments go off the scale, or to infinity, so to speak. They have no way, as of yet, to measure infinity accurately. There is more of the zero space in your own body and the Universe than anything else!

What mystics call the Void is not a void. It is so full of energy, a different kind of energy that has created everything that we are. Everything since the Big Bang is vibration, from the first Word, which is the first vibration. The biblical “I am” really has a question mark after it. “I am — What am I?” So creation is God exploring God’s Self through every way imaginable, in an ongoing, infinite exploration through every one of us. I began to see during my near-death experience that everything that is, is the Self, literally, your Self, my Self. Everything is the great Self. That is why God knows even when a leaf falls. That is possible because wherever you are is the center of the universe. Wherever any atom is, that is the center of the universe. There is God in that, and God in the Void.

As I was exploring the Void during my life after death experience and all the Yugas or creations, I was completely out of time and space as we know it. In this expanded state, I discovered that creation is about Absolute Pure Consciousness, or God, coming into the Experience of Life as we know it. The Void itself is devoid of experience. It is pre life, before the first vibration. Godhead is about more than Life and Death. Therefore there is even more than Life and Death to experience in the Universe!

When I realized this I was finished with the Void, and wanted to return to this creation, or Yuga. It just seemed like the natural thing to do. Then I suddenly came back through the second Light, or the Big Bang, hearing several more velvet booms. I rode the stream of consciousness back through all of creation, and what a ride it was! The super clusters of galaxies came through me with even more insights. I passed through the center of our galaxy, which is a black hole. Black holes are the great processors or recyclers of the Universe. Do you know what is on the other side of a Black Hole? We are; our galaxy, which has been reprocessed from another Universe. In its total energy configuration, the galaxy looked like a fantastic city of lights. All energy this side of the Big Bang is light. Every sub atom, atom, star, planet, even consciousness itself is made of light and has a frequency and/or particle. Light is living stuff. Everything is made of light, even stones. So everything is alive. Everything is made from the Light of God; everything is very intelligent.

6. The Light of Love

As I rode the stream on and on, I could eventually see a huge Light coming. I knew it was the First Light; the higher Self Light Matrix of our solar system. Then the entire solar system appeared in the Light, accompanied by one of those velvet booms. I could see during my near death experience all the energy that this solar system generates, and it is an incredible light show! I could hear the Music of the Spheres. Our solar system, as do all celestial bodies, generates a unique matrix of light, sound and vibratory energies.

Advanced civilizations from other star systems can spot life as we know it in the universe by the vibratory or energy matrix imprint. It is child’s play. The earth’s Wonder child (human beings) make an abundance of sound right now, like children playing in the backyard of the universe. The Light explained to me that there is no death; we are immortal beings. We have already been alive forever! I realized that we are part of a natural living system that recycles itself endlessly. I was never told that I had to come back. I just knew that I would. It was only natural, from what I had seen during my life after death experience.

I don’t know how long I was with the Light, in human time. But there came a moment when I realized that all my questions had been answered and my return was near. When I say that all my questions were answered on the other side, I mean to say just that. During my near death experience, all my questions have been answered. Every human has a different life and set of questions to explore. Some of our questions are Universal, but each of us is exploring this thing we call Life in our own unique way. So is every other form of life, from mountains to every leaf on every tree. And that is very important to the rest of us in this Universe. Because it all contributes to the Big Picture, the fullness of Life. We are literally God exploring God’s self in an infinite Dance of Life. Your uniqueness enhances all of Life.

7. His Return to Earth

As I began my return to the life cycle, it never crossed my mind, nor was I told during my near-death experience that I would return to the same body. It just did not matter. I had complete trust in the Light and the Life process. As the stream merged with the great Light, I asked never to forget the revelations and the feelings of what I had learned on the other side. There was a “Yes.” It felt like a kiss to my soul. Then I was taken back through the Light into the vibratory realm again. The whole process reversed, with even more information being given to me. I came back home, and I was given lessons from my near-death experience on the mechanics of reincarnation. I was given answers to all those little questions I had: “How does this work? How does that work?” I knew that I would be reincarnated. The earth is a great processor of energy, and individual consciousness evolves out of that into each one of us. I thought of myself as a human for the first time, and I was happy to be that. From what I have seen, I would be happy to be an atom in this universe. An atom. So to be the human part of God … this is the most fantastic blessing. It is a blessing beyond our wildest estimation of what blessing can be. For each and every one of us to be the human part of this experience is awesome, and magnificent.

Each and every one of us, no matter where we are, screwed up or not, is a blessing to the planet, right where we are. I went through the reincarnation process expecting to be a baby somewhere. But I was given a lesson on how individual identity and consciousness evolve. I was so surprised when I opened my eyes from my near death experience. I do not know why, because I understood it, but it was still such a surprise to be back in this body, back in my room with someone looking over me crying her eyes out. It was my hospice caretaker. She had given up an hour and a half after finding me dead. My body was stiff and inflexible. She went into the other room. Then I awakened and saw the light outside. I tried to get up to go to it, but I fell out of the bed. She heard a loud “clunk,” ran in and found me on the floor.

When I recovered, I was very surprised and yet very awed about what had happened to me during my near death experience. At first all the memory of the trip that I have now was not there. I kept slipping out of this world and kept asking, “Am I alive?” This world seemed more like a dream than that one. Within three days I was feeling normal again, clearer, yet different than I had ever felt in my life. My memory of my near-death experience came back later. I could see nothing wrong with any human being I had ever seen. Before that I was really judgmental. I thought a lot of people were really screwed up, in fact I thought that everybody was screwed up but me. But I got clear on all that.

About three months later a friend said I should get tested, so I went and got the scans and so forth. I really felt good, so I was afraid of getting bad news. I remember the doctor at the clinic looking at the before and after scans, saying, “Well, there is nothing here now.” I said, “Really, it must be a miracle.” He said, “No, these things happen; they are called spontaneous remission.” He acted very unimpressed. But here was a miracle, and I was impressed, even if no one else was.

8. The Lessons He Learned

The mystery of life has very little to do with intelligence. The universe is not an intellectual process at all. The intellect is helpful; it is brilliant, but right now that is all we process with, instead of our hearts and the wiser part of ourselves.

The center of the Earth is this great transmuter of energy, just as you see in pictures of our Earth’s magnetic field. That’s our cycle, pulling reincarnated souls back in and through it again. A sign that you are reaching human level is that you are beginning to evolve an individual consciousness. The animals have a group soul, and they reincarnate in group souls. A deer is pretty much going to be a deer forever. But just being born a human, whether deformed or genius, shows that you are on the path to developing an individual consciousness. That is in itself part of the group consciousness called humanity.

I saw that races are personality clusters. Nations like France, Germany and China each have their own personality. Cities have personalities, their local group souls that attract certain people. Families have group souls. Individual identity is evolving like branches of a fractal; the group soul explores in our individuality. The different questions that each of us has are very, very important. This is how Godhead is exploring God’s Self – through you. So ask your questions, do your searching. You will find your Self and you will find God in that Self, because it is only the Self.

More than that, I began to see that each one of us humans are soul mates. We are part of the same soul fractaling out in many creative directions, but still the same. Now I look at every human being that I ever see, and I see a soul mate, my soul mate, the one I have always been looking for. Beyond that, the greatest soul mate that you will ever have is yourself. We are each both male and female. We experience this in the womb and we experience this in reincarnation states. If you are looking for that ultimate soul mate outside of yourself, you may never find it; it is not there. Just as God is not “there.” God is here. Don’t look “out there” for God. Look here for God. Look through your Self. Start having the greatest love affair you ever had … with your Self. You will love everything out of that.

I had a descent into what you might call hell, and it was very surprising. I did not see Satan or evil. My descent into hell was a descent into each person’s customized human misery, ignorance, and darkness of not-knowing. It seemed like a miserable eternity. But each of the millions of souls around me had a little star of light always available. But no one seemed to pay attention to it. They were so consumed with their own grief, trauma and misery. But, after what seemed an eternity, I started calling out to that light, like a child calling to a parent for help. Then the light opened up and formed a tunnel that came right to me an insulated me from all that fear and pain. That is what hell really is.

So what we are doing is learning to hold hands, to come together. The doors of hell are open now. We are going to link up, hold hands, and walk out of hell together.

The light came to me and turned into a huge golden angel. I said, “Are you the angel of death?”

It expressed to me that it was my oversoul, my Higher Self matrix, a super-ancient part of ourselves. Then I was taken to the light.

Soon our science will quantify spirit. Isn’t that going to be wonderful? We are coming up with devices now that are sensitive to subtle energy or spirit energy. Physicists use these atomic colliders to smash atoms to see what they are made of. They have got it down to quarks and charm, and all that. Well, one day they are going to come down to the little thing that holds it all together, and they are going to have to call that … God. With atomic colliders they are not only seeing what is in here, but they are creating particles. Thank God most of them are short-lived milliseconds and nanoseconds. We are just beginning to understand that we are creating too, as we go along.

As I saw forever, I came to a realm in which there is a point where we pass all knowledge and begin creating the next fractal, the next level. We have that power to create as we explore. And that is God expanding itself through us.

Since my return I have experienced the light spontaneously, and I have learned how to get to that space almost any time in my meditation. Each one of you can do this. You do not have to die to do this. It is within your equipment; you are wired for it already.

The body is the most magnificent light being there is. The body is a universe of incredible light. Spirit is not pushing us to dissolve this body. That is not what is happening. Stop trying to become God; God is becoming you. Here.

The mind is like a child running around the universe, demanding this and thinking it created the world. But I ask the mind, “What did your mother have to do with this?”

That is the next level of spiritual awareness. Oh! My mother! All of a sudden you give up the ego, because you are not the only soul in the universe.

9. What Is the Best Religion?

I asked God: “What is the best religion on the planet? Which one is right?” And Godhead said, with great love: “I don’t care.” That was incredible grace.

They come and they go, they change. Buddhism has not been here forever, Catholicism has not been here forever, and they are all about to become more enlightened. More light is coming into all systems now. There is going to be a reformation in spirituality that is going to be just as dramatic as the Protestant Reformation. There will be lots of people fighting about it, one religion against the next, believing that only they are right.

Everyone thinks they own God, the religions and philosophies, especially the religions, because they form big organizations around their philosophy. When Godhead said, “I don’t care,” I immediately understood that it is for us to care about. It is important, because we are the caring beings. It matters to us and that is where it is important. What you have is the energy equation in spirituality. Ultimate Godhead does not care if you are Protestant, Buddhist, or whatever. It is all a blooming facet of the whole. I wish that all religions would realize it and let each other be. It is not the end of each religion, but we are talking about the same God. Live and let live. Each has a different view. And it all adds up to the Big Picture; it is all important.

I went over to the other side during my near-death experience with a lot of fears about toxic waste, nuclear missiles, the population explosion, the rainforest. I came back loving every single problem. I love nuclear waste. I love the mushroom cloud; this is the holiest mandala that we have manifested to date, as an archetype. It, more than any religion or philosophy on earth, brought us together all of a sudden, to a new level of consciousness. Knowing that maybe we can blow up the planet fifty times, or 500 times, we finally realize that maybe we are all here together now. For a period they had to keep setting off more bombs to get it in to us. Then we started saying, “we do not need this any more.” Now we are actally in a safer world than we have ever been in, and it is going to get safer. So I came back from my near-death experience loving toxic waste, because it brought us together. These things are so big. As Peter Russell might say, these problems are now “soul size.” Do we have soul size answers, YES!

The clearing of the rain forest will slow down, and in fifty years there will be more trees on the planet than in a long time. If you are into ecology, go for it; you are that part of the system that is becoming aware. Go for it with all your might, but do not be depressed. It is part of a larger thing. Earth is in the process of domesticating itself. It is never again going to be as wild a place as it once was. There will be great wild places, reserves where nature thrives. Gardening and reserves will be the thing in the future. Population increase is getting very close to the optimal range of energy to cause a shift in consciousness. That shift in consciousness will change politics, money, energy.

After dying, going through my near-death experience and coming back, I really respect life and death. In our DNA experiments we may have opened the door to a great secret. Soon we will be able to live as long as we want to live in this body. After living 150 years or so, there will be an intuitive soul sense that you will want to change channels. Living forever in one body is not as creative as reincarnation, as transferring energy in this fantastic vortex of energy that we are in. We are actually going to see the wisdom of life and death, and enjoy it.

As it is now, we have already been alive forever. This body, that you are in, has been alive forever. It comes from an unending stream of life, going back to the Big Bang and beyond. This body gives life to the next life, in dense and subtle energy. This body has been alive forever already.

One of my questions to the light was, “What is heaven?”

I was given a tour of all the heavens that have been created: the Nirvanas, the Happy Hunting Grounds, all of them. I went through them. These are thought form creations that we have created. We don’t really go to heaven; we are reprocessed. But whatever we created, we leave a part of ourselves there. It is real, but it is not all of the soul.

I saw the Christian heaven. We expect it to be a beautiful place, and you stand in front of the throne, worshiping forever. I tried it. It is boring! This is all we are going to do? It is childlike. I do not mean to offend anyone. Some heavens are very interesting, and some are very boring. I found the ancient ones to be more interesting, like the Native American ones, the Happy Hunting Grounds. The Egyptians have fantastic ones. It goes on and on. There are so many of them. In each of them there is a fractal that is your particular interpretation, unless you are part of the group soul that believes in only the God of a particular religion. Then you are very close, in the same ball park together. But even then, each is a little bit different. That is a part of yourself that you leave there. Death is about life, not about heaven.

What happens when we dream? We are multi-dimensional beings. We can access that through lucid dreaming. In fact, this universe is God’s dream. One of the things that I saw is that we humans are a speck on a planet that is a speck in a galaxy that is a speck. Those are giant systems out there, and we are in sort of an average system. But human beings are already legendary throughout the cosmos of consciousness. The little bitty human being of Earth/Gaia is legendary. One of the things that we are legendary for is dreaming. We are legendary dreamers. In fact, the whole cosmos has been looking for the meaning of life, the meaning of it all. And it was the little dreamer who came up with the best answer ever. We dreamed it up. So dreams are important.

1. Martha Anne St. Claire’s NDE

Martha Anne St. Claire lives in northern California where she had a profound NDE when she was twenty-three years old that changed her life and provided a prophetic glimpse into our planetary future. She also was born premature, nearly dying at birth, and she also had an experience at age seven. However, the experience described below was the most profound, as she recalls.

In 1974, while water-skiing with friends, it was her last run for the day. The waves were choppy and so rough that she was forced to let go of the tow rope. As she fell, the triangle piece of the tow rope wrapped around her left forearm, jerking her down harshly and dragging her behind the boat, just under the surface of the water. Her boyfriend was driving the boat, chatting and drinking beer with his friend who was supposed to be watching but wasn’t. They didn’t notice that Martha had fallen down. As she struggled to hold her breath, she felt her spirit rise out of her body and then could see her body just under the surface of the water, being dragged at high speed. She saw her two friends in the boat talking to each other, oblivious to what was happening to her. She also saw her four-year old son playing on the shore with other friends. Martha’s spirit traveled into a dark tunnel where she could hear loud clicking sounds. She traveled fast toward the light at the other end, excited, feeling she was going someplace she had once been. She came out where there were flowers everywhere, brightly colored and gorgeous. She then found herself in the universe surrounded by brilliant stars and planets all around her and into infinity. Although she couldn’t see anything solid beneath her feet, she felt like she was standing on something and that she was home.

2. Martha’s Encounter with Melchizedek

Webmaster note: Melchizedek was the king of Salem and priest of El Elyon (“God most high”) who is mentioned twice in the Hebrew Bible. In Genesis 14:18-20, Melchizedek brings out bread and wine and blesses Abram. In Psalm 110:4, David references the Messiah as being “a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.” In the Christian New Testament (Hebrews 5: 6-10, Hebrews 6: 20 and Hebrews 7: 1-21), Jesus Christ is identified as “a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek” quoting from Psalm 110:4. As such, Jesus assumes the role of High Priest once and for all. More information about Melchizedek can be found below.

Suddenly, Martha found herself before Melchizedek. He didn’t identify himself, but she recognized him and knew she had always known him. In the beautiful light that seemed like “liquid divine love”, Martha experienced her true self, her full soul essence. “I felt free. It was wonderful seeing him! There are no words to describe my heavenly experience.”

Melchizedek was bearded, stood eight or nine feet tall, wearing colors of forest green, rich burgundy, and gold on his velvet robe with a scarf covering his head and forehead. They communicated through thoughts. He said, “Are you ready to come?”

She exclaimed, “Already?” She felt that she had made a previous contract or agreement about her coming to earth and that he was aware of it. She knew it wasn’t her time to die, that she hadn’t accomplished all she had committed to do. She understood that souls on Earth had chosen Earth, their parents, the time to be here, lessons to be learned, and unique situations that was designed for each person’s growth. She gained the understanding that we are not victims in the way we think we are; however, it takes great courage to be born on Earth, especially during this time. Above all, she knew we were given free choice.

Although Melchizedek let her know that she could stay in heaven and not return to earth, she panicked at the idea feeling like she had failed in some ways. She could see that there was more to do for her soul growth, helping others, and for her son. Melchizedek felt she was being too hard on herself.

She insisted that she wanted to go back. Then she was drawn toward a border that would lead her even more deeply into heaven, but knew if she passed through it, she couldn’t return to Earth. She saw many other things, including in the distance, an entrance to a cave glowing with light that led into another dimension where people were studying and learning lots of information.

Concerning that dimension she states, “In that space you know all and have access to the mysteries of the universe and more.” In another direction, she saw crystal-like buildings and temples with golden edges.

She saw that Earth was a difficult place to be, but there was a divine plan, and things would eventually be better. A twenty-year span between 1992 to 2012 was a time of great transition of the Earth in preparation for the dawning of the Millennium.

She understood that Mother Earth is alive and that surges of light are sent down to help heal her because she suffers from the pollution she is exposed to and also that the increments of light cause bizarre weather patterns, even if great transformation. She saw more frequent earthquakes, large tidal waves, a polar shift, and the ice caps breaking up and melting. She saw the Earth’s surface changing, and many people dying, often in large numbers because they couldn’t handle the intensity of vibration and its consequences and they chose to do die because their souls needed further growth in another sphere. In some cases, she saw people who had prepared themselves spiritually, were protected, while those around them died. However, she also saw that each soul chooses the time of death She saw three days of darkness. She also understood that certain catastrophes could be lessened or delayed through the power of prayer.

She says we have spiritual amnesia, having forgotten the knowledge we possessed before birth; there is a higher consciousness for each of us and it is important that we connect with God through prayer and meditation to be awakened in our souls.

Melchizedek showed Martha what would happen if she chose to die. She saw the boat being stopped and her body being carried to shore where she was given mouth-to-mouth resuscitation without success. Her boyfriend was crying and she knew he would feel guilty for the rest of his life. She saw her son and knew she couldn’t leave him yet. She didn’t want certain others to suffer because of her untimely death and because she had spiritual work to do, she chose to return to Earth, even if she so wanted to stay in the wonderful light.

Martha found herself back in her body which had a will of its own, feeling stunned and weak in the river. Coughing and sputtering, she surfaced a distance from the stopped boat, and tried to yell, “Don’t you see, I’m drowning out here?!” Yet, even with the rope deeply meshed in her injured arm, she was in a state of utter bliss and transformation.

As they reached shore, her son said, “What took you so long, Mommy? I thought you were never coming back.” She knew that somehow he was aware of more than her brief boat trip on the Sacramento River Delta. (This is a condensed version of Martha’s NDE).

After her NDE, Martha’s entire life changed and the blissful energy stayed with her for some time. Martha could see auras around others and in nature. Spiritual gifts, she’d had in childhood, opened to her even more. She didn’t talk much about it because others were uncomfortable with her story or didn’t understand. This was before the term “near-death experience” had even become known.

The longing to share the divine spirit she experienced during her NDE, led her, in the years that followed, on an inner journey of spiritual practice that included ministerial training through the Unity Church and a private counseling practice as a spiritual medium, angelic messenger, and energetic healer for humans and animals.

3. Martha’s NDE Vision of the Future

Martha Anne St. Claire described her NDE visions of the future in the NBC television documentary entitled “Ancient Prophecies III.” Here is how she described them:

“Basically, I saw that there was a 20 year period from 1992 to 2012. Things will be greatly accelerated on Earth. All these things will be manifest by great Earth changes: earthquakes, floods, tidal waves, great winds. I also saw there were certain areas that would be particularly affected – the areas of the east coast, which will be a surprised regarding earthquakes. (Martha also saw cement rubble in NYC and now wonders if she was seeing the events of 9/11.) I remember very clearly Japan slipping into the ocean. I was shown there was going to be something akin to three days of darkness. I don’t feel it is from nuclear war. To me, it was more of a feeling of natural Earth disasters with smoke from volcanoes that would block the sun. We are all going to be on a roller-coaster ride, and yet, it is not forever. If we have darkness, it will pass. We will always have great light.” – Martha Anne St. Claire

More NDE prophecies can be found at the NDE and the Future research conclusions.

4. More Information about Melchizedek

As previously mentioned, Melchizedek was the king of Salem and priest of El Elyon (“God most high”) who is mentioned twice in the Hebrew Bible and several times in the Christian New testament. Melchizedek is also mentioned in other ancient texts.

The Dead Sea Scrolls themselves have a fragment 11Q13 (11QMelch), dated to the end of the 2nd or start of the 1st century BC, where Melchizedek is seen as a divine being and Hebrew titles as Elohim are applied to him. According to 11Q13 text, Melchizedek will proclaim the “Day of Atonement” and he will atone for the people who are predestined to him. He also will judge the peoples. This Melchizedek fragment also reveals the Messiah to be a “redivivus” (reincarnation) of Melchizedek.

In the Second Book of Enoch, a Jewish sectarian text of the 1st century AD, Melchizedek is mentioned. The last section of the work, the Exaltation of Melchizedek, tells how Melchizedek was born of a virgin, the wife of Nir, a brother of Noah. The text describes how the child came out from his mother after she had died and sat on the bed beside her corpse, already physically developed, clothed, speaking and blessing the Lord, and marked with the badge of priesthood. Forty days later, Melchizedek was taken by the archangel Gabriel (Michael in some manuscripts) to the Garden of Eden and was thus preserved from the Deluge without having to be in Noah’s Ark.

Philo (20 BC – 50 AD), a Hellenistic Jewish philosopher who lived in Alexandria, Egypt, during the rule of the Roman Empire, identified Melchizedek with the Logos as priest of God, and honored as an untutored priesthood.

Josephus (37 AD – 100 AD), a Romano-Jewish historian who witnessed the sack of Jerusalem, referred to Melchizedek as a “Canaanite chief” in War of the Jews, and as a priest in Antiquities of the Jews. Josephus also mentioned that the Pharisees, the Jewish sect which founded Rabbinic Judaism (to which Paul once belonged) were believers in reincarnation. Accordingly, Josephus writes how the Pharisees believed the souls of evil men are punished after death and the souls of good men are “removed into other bodies” and they “have power to revive and live again.” Josephus also mentions how the Essenes of the Dead Sea Scrolls lived “the same kind of life” as the followers of Pythagoras, the Greek philosopher who taught reincarnation. According to Josephus, the Essenes believed the soul is both immortal and pre-existent which is a necessary tenet for belief in reincarnation.

In Rabbinic texts, Melchizedek receives little attention, perhaps because of the discussions of him in the New Testament and the speculations about him in Second Temple era Jewish documents, such as 11Q13 or 2 Enoch. This tradition, especially in Targum Jonathan, Targum Yerushalmi, and the Babylonian Talmud, Melchizedek is believed to have been the reincarnation of Shem – the son of Noah.

Christian Gnostic writings affirms Jesus to be Melchizedek reincarnated. According to the collection of early Christian Gnostic scriptures (the Nag Hammadi Library), dating on or before the 4th century and discovered in 1945, they contain a tractate pertaining to Melchizedek where it is proposed that Melchizedek is Jesus Christ. Melchizedek, as Jesus Christ, lives, preaches, dies and is reincarnated. The Coming of the Son of God, Melchizedek speaks of his return to bring peace, supported by the gods, and is a priest-king who dispenses justice. This tractate about Melchizedek states the following:

“And you crucified me from the third hour of the Sabbath – eve until the ninth hour. And after these things I arose from the dead. My body came out of the tomb to me. […] They did not find anyone greeted me […] They said to me, Be strong, Melchizedek, great High Priest of God Most High.”

Note: The […] indicates missing fragments or illegible wording.

Birger A. Pearson states:

“Furthermore, the tractate’s apparent identification of Melchizedek with Jesus Christ … is also documented elsewhere in early Christianity, particularly in Egypt. We are drawn to the conclusion that, in the revelation which the priest Melchizedek has received, he has seen that he himself will have a redemptive role to play as the suffering, dying, resurrected and triumphant Savior, Jesus Christ! … From what we read … it seems that the victory of Jesus Christ is the victory of Melchizedek and that, in fact, they are one and the same … I did and do understand the text of the first tractate to imply that Melchizedek was prophesied to return again, as Jesus.”

Christian Protestant denominations are generally in agreement with Martin Luther that Melchizedek was a historical figure and an “archetype” of Christ. Others, noting Hebrews 7 which states that Melchizedek was “without father, without mother, without genealogy” agree that Melchizedek could not be Jesus and instead identify him as a manifestation of the Holy Spirit.

In Islam, there is no mention of Melchizedek in the Qur’an or in early Islamic exegesis or literature. Some later commentators, including Abdullah Yusuf Ali, however, did suggest a link between Melchizedek and Khidr – a revered figure in Islam whom the Qur’an describes as a righteous servant of God and who possessed great wisdom or mystic knowledge. Khidr is most often said to be a contemporary of Moses. In medieval Islamic tradition, Khidr is variously described as a messenger or a prophet. Abdullah Yusuf Ali referred to St. Paul’s allegory of Melchizedek in his Epistle to the Hebrews as a parallel to the Muslim view of Khidr. In Ismailism, however, Melchizedek is of greater importance as one of the “Permanent Imams”; that is those who guide people through the ages of history.

But according to Edgar Cayce, the so-called “sleeping prophet,” Melchizedek was only one of the reincarnations of Jesus. Cayce revealed how it was necessary for the very advanced spirit of Melchizedek to reincarnate in order to reach Christhood as the man Jesus. The Cayce revelations show us why the Master spirit again incarnated after the experience as Melchizedek:

The Christ spirit incarnated as Adam, Enoch, Melchizedek, David, then Joseph the prince of Egypt. The Christ spirit then realized it was necessary to set a pattern for humanity and to show the way back to God through unconditional love and self-sacrifice. Thus, the Master spirit assumed his mission through his incarnation as Jesus. By resurrecting his body, he made the Jesus-Melchizedek priesthood eternal.

It is clear from the Epistles to the Hebrews that Melchizedek was not an ordinary human, assuming he even was human. However, a careful examination of the evidence concerning the existence of Melchizedek reveals him to be a previous reincarnation of Jesus. There are strong parallels between Melchizedek and Jesus: both are the Son of God, priest of the Order of Melchizedek, King of Righteous, King of Peace, a Messiah, appointed by God, eternal priesthood, and preexistent.

Lynnclaire Dennis’ Near-Death Experience

Near-death testimonies often include an encounter with a heavenly “Light.” But to my, webmaster Kevin Williams’ knowledge, no experiencer other than Lynnclaire Dennis (www.mereon.org) has ever brought back a detailed scientific description of the Light’s complex geometric structure and movement. In her 1997 book entitled The Pattern, Lynnclaire first described in detail her amazing NDE and description of this Light. Many years have passed since I first learned of her profound NDE and it remains one of the most transcendental and amazing NDEs I have ever come across. Her NDE testimony has graced the “Exceptional NDEs” section of my website from its very beginning. We continued to stay in touch over the years and I continued to follow her work hoping what she brought back from her NDE would develop into the scientific discovery we now know it is – the very science of life and living.

From the very beginning, despite her religious upbringing, Lynnclaire courageously refused to give this Pattern of Light the ambiguous label of “God”. She prefers to simply call it “The Pattern” and she describes it as an all-connecting pattern of Light – a three-dimensional mandala representative of time and space, and the energy generating matter. Because she experienced The Pattern as pure Love, she has always maintained it to be the reason why Love is all that matters. In simple terms, The Pattern is a knot; but not just any knot. The Pattern is the simplest knot (a Trefoil Knot) and yet most profound knot – a never-before-discovered trefoil knot. The Pattern became of great interest to mathematicians, physicists, astrobiologists, and molecular geneticists who developed from it the “Mereon Matrix” – an algorithm representing the unification of knowledge which relies on whole systems both living and life-like. It is a scientific framework charting the sequential, emergent growth process of systems. 1. Lynnclaire Dennis’ Initial Near-Death Experience

“I recall precisely the moment that I broke the bonds of this inimical world and was immersed in the warmth of the light. Suddenly I was safe, warm, and basking in the luminous sunlight high in the luminous sunlight high in the alpine meadows of Mt. Rainier. I was no longer over the Alps – I was in Washington State. Somehow this made perfect sense.

“Here, in a place filled with vivid and joyous childhood memories, I took extraordinary comfort in the firmness of the ground beneath my feet. With gratitude and wonder, I wandered through the valley, suffused with a certain knowing that I had crossed a cosmic frontier. Was this heaven, or was it perhaps some place beyond that celestial other-world I’d always hoped to be good enough to enter? All I knew – and knew for certain – was that time and space were nothing more than attenuated wisps of human invention. Both were webs of light created in my consciousness.

“As my being expanded I saw the cords of years that bound me to the planet. The bond, which was braided from strands of days, bands of months, and ribbons of years, fashioned a nexus between then and now. No doubt this was the mountain of my childhood, but it was essentially different. It was real, yet it was out of sync with the abstraction of linear time. As I stood there I realized that if time was all here now, then it could not be a straight line. This could only mean that there could be no such thing as a beginning, a middle, or an end. Furthermore, it was here that I determined that I was out of time as well, even though I had a corporal existence.

“Never before had I considered that there might be such things as coexistent realities. Never had I imagined that there might be concurrent realms. Never in my wildest dreams had I thought there might be a way to remember and feel different times and events as if they were happening right now. I realized that in life, death is merely the other side of a threshold over which I could not ‘normally’ see. So, too, in death, life and the land of the ‘living’ were on the other side of a very thin veil.

“It struck me that perhaps neither heaven nor Earth is as black or white as I had heretofore believed.

“It was then that I looked down at my body and with amazement wondered, “Where did this gown come from?” I was no longer bound in heavy, restricting layers of winter wool, but was wearing an exquisite white gown that appeared to be fashioned of a fabric some master designer had created by splashing star dust on filigree spider webs. I watched as it seemed to float above my skin. It was as if a million tiny wings kept it from putting even the weight of a feather on my body. A sense of lightness permeated my being to what I thought must be a cellular – indeed a ‘soulular’ – level.

“And then I heard the MUSIC. It was a tone so sublimely perfect that remembering it still brings me to tears. I knew then, and know now, that I was hearing the symphony of angels, the song of the universe, what some have called the ‘Music of the Spheres‘. All thoughts melted in its melody and everything else ceased to be of any importance. I closed my eyes and began to dance, moving to the resonant vibration that coursed through my essence. The melody seemed to issue from a single point and was composed of one verse, a song whose mystical tone my entire being knew and sang. I bathed in its melody as utter joy filled my being, and as the sound washed over my spirit, I felt all confusion purged from my consciousness.

“Standing beneath this euphonious canopy of grace, I knew love was being awakened at the depths of my soul. Moving with this aria of elegant mercy, I began my return to the dawn of totality as a growing sense of Oneness swelled within my heart, mind, and soul.”

2. Meeting Her Deceased Grandmother

“Unspeakable joy filled my heart when I saw my paternal grandmother walking down the mountain. She approached me and enveloped me with open arms. The last time I had seen her was the summer of 1963.

“For more than twenty years I carried an inconsolable grief in my heart because I never got to say good-bye.

“Now we were together again in a magical place where time held no meaning. As we talked of love, I realized that it alone was real. We walked hand in hand in a vacuum beyond the boundary we call time. My grief disappeared as our love was redeemed from what I had believed to be oblivion. We walked in a sacred space where earthly memory pictures were hung without physical frames. We traversed a realm that for many in the here and now defies logical explanation or reason. Yet, I know that it is a realm that is exceedingly real. It is a space where grace knows no bounds and only infinite love abounds. We only have to remember to make it ‘real.’

“In luxuriant warmth we moved on, drawn higher into the valley, moving toward the Source of the light. I made a single turn, and the meadow suddenly became an amphitheater. On a stage that seemed to be suspended in front of me, I witnessed, with my grandmother, what seemed to be an encore performance of my life.

“Ninety degrees to my right was what I perceived to be a doorway, just within the range of my peripheral vision. It was from this doorway that every character who had played in my life’s drama emerged. In turn they walked to center stage, where they faced me. As they greeted me, I inexplicably seemed to understand the highest purpose of our earthly connection. It was love. I saw each person for who he or she was apart from the descriptions I had previously used to define each of them. As they taught me love, I realized what an important role we play in the development of one another’s personality. I saw how judgment, blame, and shame distort or destroy one’s sense of self. For the first time I saw the depth of the impression we make on one another’s lives.

“I was greeted by acquaintances, friends, my grandparents, my father’s best friend, as well as a school chum from seventh grade.”

3. Meeting Her Miscarried Son and Having a Life Review

“One of them most wondrous encounters came when my maternal grandmother approached me carrying a baby. I knew this child was the son I had miscarried in the seventh month of a difficult pregnancy in 1977. Seeing him brought a new peace to my soul as I finally realized that this child of my heart had fulfilled his purpose to absolute perfection. Both then and now, in what was truly a magical moment, his tiny presence awakened a new measure of life within my being. It was only upon this sacred mountain that finally my highest self was endowed with the peace required to end my grief and grant this innocent infant his wings.

I soon realized that time is not linear, but rather composed of life’s lessons, all of which I had passed through. This panorama flowed over me like a river of living water. As my previously shallow awareness of love and life deepened, I knew that nothing in my life or my death was an accident.

“After each person shared his or her message, the meaning of love, each one turned and exited through another door located to the left of the stage. I knew without a doubt that I would soon walk through that door and join them on the other side.

“The last person to walk on the stage of my life was a man unknown to me. As he walked to the center of the stage and turned to face me, I noticed that my vision was no longer clear. Although I was certain this was not someone I knew, I could feel him at the depths of my soul. He began to speak, communicating directly to my heart. The message he shared that day was engraved on both my mind and my soul:

‘Lynnclaire, you will be a catalyst for change, for love. You will bring forth, hold, and honor remembrance. You will bring to conscious awareness the realms, realities, and remnants in order that the spirit may remember the dance.’

“I knew this was Truth. I also knew that I had never felt so remembered, recognized, understood, or loved. Yet, when he turned to leave, instead of following the others and walking off the stage through the door to my left, he turned toward the right. As I watched him return through the doorway from which he had entered, I clearly recall thinking this was important.

“Since that day I’ve identified him as the presence. Suddenly, the stage was gone and I was once again out of time. I was a witness, observing myself as a child … I watched as my innocent child-self … began to dance across the meadows.

“Then, as I contemplated this celebration of life, I saw that in a single turn in my-her waltz, I-she was no longer a child, but a thirty-five year old woman dancing alone in the Hofburg Palace … I was once more in my magical gown, moving alone in harmony with the MUSIC. In that moment I chose to merge with that self and began to dance. Each step drew me closer to the light.

“Then, in a sacred place somewhere before the light, I found myself being held, gently rocked, nurtured, and embraced in the arms of the one I believed to be the presence. Whether this was a guide, a guardian, a human man who has the ability to walk between the worlds, or even an angel, it does not matter. For still today this memory is alive. The presence vibrates within my senses and daily infuses my sentient memory archives with love. I knew then, and remember now, the warmth, serenity, and comfort I felt as I was embraced in the arms of a long and still-remembered love. As I was cradled in this serene embrace, I was bathed in light. My spirit was imbued with a sense of peace, and my soul was engraved with the remembrance of a timeless love.

“As the experience dissolved into the light, I found myself again moving higher up the mountain. When I paused to look back into the valley I saw myself as a child again, this time picking a bouquet of wild alpine blooms. As I-she waltzed through the meadow, I heard myself-her singing, calling out to the mountain, “I love you. I love you. I’m home.”

“I closed my eyes and wondered, ‘Am I home? Or am I going home?’

“With my eyes closed, as if in a vision within a vision, I saw my mother. I could not understand why she was there. As far as I knew, my mom was very much alive. Wasn’t this ‘the other side?’ I knew I was no longer alive and felt that I was in a space between the worlds…

“It was then that I saw the tunnel and knew with absolute assurance that I was on my way home, certain that the home I had long yearned for was in the light at the other end of this passageway.

“As I was standing alone with my grandmother, she told me that I must make this part of the journey alone. Filled with peace, I knew I would see her again on the other side.

“I was ready, and without hesitation took my first step into the corridor that led toward the light, crossing an intersection that connected now with forever … Once I was inside the tunnel it was as if someone at the other end was calling my name, drawing me forward. I knew that this passageway was taking me to the top of the mountain, leading me home into the light. I was overjoyed to be going to the summit, as all my life I had wanted to climb to the top of Mt. Rainier. I had never made the attempt, believing that I would try and fail, or that I would die trying.

“I moved effortless into the passage. Soon I knew I would be able to fly. Fly?

“The light was getting brighter and warmer as I moved through the tunnel. The MUSIC, the celestial symphony, continued to fill the air with a psalm of Oneness, played on unseen instruments of peace.

“I arrived at the pinnacle and, standing at the entrance to the light, took a single step, leaving my right footprint embedded in Eternity. I entered a sacred space – a place where I knew I had returned to my most essential nature, where I felt wholly and consciously united with all things and Source, where a soothing balm of peace was poured on my spirit by an unseen hand, an emollient so rich in love that to this day I cannot fully absorb or comprehend it.

4. Lynnclaire Dennis’ Experience with “The Pattern”

“And then, in one ephemeral glimpse, I saw the Pattern, the single strand of the tapestry I knew was the essence woven through matter in every reality. Its design was so complexly simple that I knew it could only have been fashioned in the exalted intricacy of infinity.

“Seeing the Pattern, I knew I was looking at life itself. It was light; it was time and space. It was the energy of all matter, the heart of all that mattered. It was the very essence of all being. It emanated from Source, illuminated to my mind by ‘the Source behind the sun’ as it moved in perfect harmony with all the universe. As I prepared to meld into the Source of light and absolute love, I knew with all my being that the Pattern was the core of all substance. I knew that the MUSIC emanating from the Pattern was the song of my heart, a testament of unconditional love. The single step I had taken was the first in a dance that would take me into the single point of Infinite light, which contained the power of love that would forever illuminate my mind and heart. I inhaled and prepared to take the next step as the exhalation of love, the Life Force of the Universe, carried me home, when, without warning, the melody screeched. Before I could move, a cacophony assaulted me. A cold wind rushed past me, and I remember crying out, ‘No!’

“I knew I was in a life-or-death struggle, this time with an unknown adversary who had grabbed me by my left foot. I was struggling with an enemy who was attempting to yank me backward, pulling me away from the light. I was enraged. I did not want to leave. Yet, even as I was being dragged back, I knew I had to remember. I twisted to the right to look at the Pattern, knowing I must not forget.

“The enemy was my loving partner, Steve. As he frantically administered CPR, he pummeled my chest, forcing oxygen to circulate in my body. Later he would insist that as I reentered my body, my wind-milling fists were empowered with an otherworldly rage.

“The exact length of time I was ‘dead,’ in what is often referred to as a near-death experience, remains uncertain. However, making the ascent from twelve thousand feet, where I remember going out of my body, to more than seventeen thousand feet would probably have taken more than fifteen minutes.

“Although Steve was successful in reviving me, one thing was certain – the woman he had brought back was not the same one who had left. After learning that I was in essence a Being of Light, I had to come back into this world and reenter a dense, physical body. Furthermore, almost every belief I had embraced only hours before – that I was a physical being, that love was outside of me, that God was some patriarchal monarch sitting on a marble throne somewhere in the sky, that death was something to fear, that I was doomed by my past, that religion and spirituality were the same, that spirituality and science were different – was no longer true to my experience. Virtually every picture of ‘reality’ I had used to define my existence – not to be confused with my life – had been cremated. The ashes of the woman I thought I was were scattered on the wind.”

5. An Analysis of Lynnclaire Dennis’ Near-Death Experience by Kevin Williams

One of the amazing aspects of NDEs is how they have so many similar components between them. These similarities include: an out-of-body experience; a tunnel which they travel through; a heavenly Light made of indescribable love; a homecoming with deceased loved ones; an arrival to a heavenly “transit station”; a comprehensive life review; and an encounter with a “Being of Light.” Lynnclaire’s NDE is certainly no exception. The following is my analysis of some of the components of Lynnclaire’s NDE compared with other experiencers’ NDEs. Note that this is certainly not a complete analysis and more information may be added or updated later.

a. Lynnclaire’s Expansion of Consciousness

Like many experiencers during their NDE, Lynnclaire described having her consciousness expand. She described it this way:

“As my being expanded I saw the cords of years that bound me to the planet. I recall precisely the moment that I broke the bonds of this inimical world and was immersed in the warmth of the light … The bond, which was braided from strands of days, bands of months, and ribbons of years, fashioned a nexus between then and now.” (Lynnclaire Dennis)

This expansion process may continue until the experiencer’s consciousness fills the entire universe and even beyond it. People have described this expansion of consciousness as literally “becoming the universe” or “knowing everything in the universe” or “becoming God”. One experiencer, Mellen-Thomas Benedict, described it as:

“Suddenly I seemed to be rocketing away from the planet on this stream of life … At faster than light speed, I flew through the center of the galaxy, absorbing more knowledge as I went … As I rode this stream of consciousness through the center of the galaxy, the stream was expanding in awesome fractal waves of energy … At first I thought I was going somewhere; actually travelling. But then I realized that, as the stream was expanding, my own consciousness was also expanding to take in everything in the Universe!” (Mellen-Thomas Benedict)

b. Lynnclaire’s Life Review in a Heavenly Amphitheater

Another component found in Lynnclaire’s NDE and others is having their life review while inside a heavenly “amphitheater”. Lynnclaire described travelling a heavenly route towards this amphitheater which is found in many other NDEs. It begins by leaving Earth behind and entering into a “Void” – a spaceless and timeless realm where self-reflection is optimal. The journey then continues toward a kind of “receiving station” which in Lynnclaire’s case and others was an amphitheater. She described having her life reviewed in this amphitheater as a kind of heavenly “This Is Your Life” television episode where her deceased loved ones would appear one by one, greet her, and have Lynnclaire’s relationship with them evaluated. Here is how Lynnclaire described it:

“In luxuriant warmth we moved on, drawn higher into the valley, moving toward the Source of the light. I made a single turn, and the meadow suddenly became an amphitheater. On a stage that seemed to be suspended in front of me, I witnessed, with my grandmother, what seemed to be an encore performance of my life. Ninety degrees to my right was what I perceived to be a doorway, just within the range of my peripheral vision. It was from this doorway that every character who had played in my life’s drama emerged. In turn they walked to center stage, where they faced me … I was greeted by acquaintances, friends, my grandparents, my father’s best friend, as well as a school chum from seventh grade … For the first time I saw the depth of the impression we make on one another’s lives … … As they greeted me, I inexplicably seemed to understand the highest purpose of our earthly connection. It was love. I saw each person for who he or she was apart from the descriptions I had previously used to define each of them. As they taught me love, I realized what an important role we play in the development of one another’s personality … I also knew that I had never felt so remembered, recognized, understood, or loved … The highest purpose of our earthly connections is love .. After each person shared his or her message, the meaning of love, each one turned and exited through another door located to the left of the stage. I knew without a doubt that I would soon walk through that door and join them on the other side.” (Lynnclaire Dennis)

Other experiencers have described having their life reviewed in such an amphitheater. One such experiencer, Ned Dougherty, described being, “in the deepest void of space feeling comfortable and at home.” He then entered into a magnificent ethereal structure he described as:

“… an amphitheater made of a brilliant, crystal-like substance .. suspended in the void of space in the same fashion that a space station might hover in space. The amphitheater was similar in size to a sports stadium and conveyed a great majesty.” (Ned Dougherty)

It was there that Ned also experienced a life review.

One female experiencer known on my website only as “P. Anderson.” described seeing a clear white bright light which lead her into:

“a huge, wonderful, stadium or amphitheater where love and music emanated from it.” (P. Anderson)

Another experiencer, known only as “An Accountant“, described it this way:

“As we (he and his deceased parents) walked along together to find Jesus, I noticed there was one building larger than all the others. It looked like a football stadium with an open end to the building where a blinding light radiated from it. I tried to look up at the light but I couldn’t. It was too brilliant. Many people seemed to be bowed in front of this building in adoration and prayer. I said to my parents, ‘What is that?’ They said, ‘In there is God.'” (An Accountant)

Carter Mills was taken to a suspended platform during his NDE where he met a being so powerful he thought it was God. The angels bowed and took their places with two others at the platform’s four corners. Carter learned that the powerful being was Jesus who then led him through a life review.

The life review has been described by many people as being the single most enlightening component of their NDE. The main purpose of the life review is for the experiencer to learn important lessons about love from the perspective of the life they lived while on Earth. Other reasons for the life review are based upon this main purpose. These reasons include:

a. For educating the experiencer about life and death.

b. For educating the experiencer about themselves: why they are the way we are; what were the motives behind their actions; how did their lives impact others; how they could have done better; and what they can do to correct aspects to themselves not compatible with life in the spirit realm. Learning these lessons are important for becoming a better and more spiritual person.

c. For evaluating the experiencer’s soul development for the purpose of attaining soul growth.

d. For evaluating the experiencer’s progress in completing their mission on Earth.

e. For determining the experiencer’s next step toward their progression in the light.

The life review has been presented to experiencers in various ways and as having many interesting characteristics – not all of which are found in every life review. They may include instantly becoming everyone you came in contact with in your entire life: feeling their emotions, thinking their thoughts, living their experiences, learning their motives behind their actions. The experiencer may relive every detail of every second of their life, every emotion, and every thought simultaneously; re-live the way they dealt with others and how others dealt with them. It may involve viewing a few special deeds in your life or replaying a part of your life to focus on a particular event for instruction. Some experiencers have reported viewing past lives and/or the future giving them a strong sense of responsibility. The life review is a fact-finding process rather than a fault-finding process. The experiencer’s motives for everything are as visible as their actions. Often the negative events an individual might expect to see does not show up due to a change of heart.

c. Lynnclaire’s Experience of Timelessness

Experiencers such as Lynnclaire affirm that time does not exist in the spirit realm. This feeling of timelessness after death has been described by experiencers as having the feeling they are returning to a realm they inhabited only a moment ago; and the lifetime they spent on Earth seemed like only a brief moment. One important lesson to be learned from this fact is that by our getting rid of this illusion of time from our minds right now can go a long way in expanding our consciousness by realizing that we are already living in eternity right now. For this reason, while experiencers may have been clinically dead for only a few minutes, their NDE may seem like it lasted for eternity. Lynnclaire described it this way:

“All I knew – and knew for certain – was that time and space were nothing more than attenuated wisps of human invention … As I stood there I realized that if time was all here now, then it could not be a straight line. This could only mean that there could be no such thing as a beginning, a middle, or an end.” (Lynnclaire Dennis)

Another experiencer, Beverly Brodsky described this same principle:

“Space and time are illusions that hold us to the physical realm; in the spirit realm, all is present simultaneously.” (Beverly Brodsky)

Another experiencer, Jayne Smith, described it this way:

“One experience in the spirit realm can feel like forever. Time no longer seems to apply and seems irrelevant. Time is only relevant when it is relative to the normal orderly sequential aspects of life. The experience can feel like a moment and an eternity. You realize that you are eternal and indestructible.” (Jayne Smith)

Kimberly Clark Sharp put it this way:

“Earthly time has no meaning in the spirit realm. There is no concept of before or after. Everything – past, present, future – exists simultaneously.” (Kimberly Clark Sharp)

P.M.H. Atwater‘s description of time and timelessness is my favorite:

“Time and space exists only in the physical realm. When you leave the physical realm, you leave such constraints. Existence there is never ending and ongoing, forever and ever eternal. The only true movement is without the distortion of time and space. It is expansion and contraction, as if the existence that exists were capable of breathing. What appears as a progression, a time-line of starts and stops and ever-changing variations, is but an overleaf, an illusion, that helps us to focus on whatever realm we currently inhabit so that we will accomplish what we set out to do (or at least have an opportunity to), and not be distracted by The Truth that under-girds reality. Using radio as an analogy, dying to this physical realm and entering a spirit realm is comparable to having lived all your life at a certain radio frequency when all of a sudden someone or something comes along and flips the dial. That flip shifts you to another, higher wavelength. The original frequency where you once existed is still there. It did not change. Everything is still just the same as it was. Only you changed, only you speeded up to allow entry into the next radio frequency on the dial. You then fit into your particular spot on the dial by your speed of vibration. You cannot coexist forever where you do not belong.” (P.M.H. Atwater)

d. Lynnclaire’s Experience of Heavenly Music

As in Lynnclaire’s case, many experiencers hear extremely beautiful, heavenly music during their NDE. Lynnclaire described it this way:

“And then I heard the MUSIC. It was a tone so sublimely perfect that remembering it still brings me to tears. I knew then, and know now, that I was hearing the symphony of angels, the song of the universe, what some have called the ‘Music of the Spheres.’ All thoughts melted in its melody and everything else ceased to be of any importance. I closed my eyes and began to dance, moving to the resonant vibration that coursed through my essence. The melody seemed to issue from a single point and was composed of one verse, a song whose mystical tone my entire being knew and sang. I bathed in its melody as utter joy filled my being, and as the sound washed over my spirit, I felt all confusion purged from my consciousness … The MUSIC, the celestial symphony, continued to fill the air with a psalm of Oneness, played on unseen instruments of peace … As I prepared to meld into the Source of light and absolute love, I knew with all my being that the Pattern was the core of all substance. I knew that the MUSIC emanating from the Pattern was the song of my heart, a testament of unconditional love.” (Lynnclaire Dennis)

Another experiencer, Dr. Richard Eby, described it this way:

“Music surrounded me. It came from all directions. Its harmonic beauty unlike earthly vocal or instrumental sounds was totally undistorted. It flowed unobtrusively like a glassy river, quietly worshipful, excitingly edifying, and totally comforting. It provided a reassuring type of comfort much like a protective blanket that whispered peace and love. I had never sensed anything like it. Perhaps angelic would describe it.” (Dr. Richard Eby)

Steve Roach of Tucson, Arizona, had an NDE after a bike crash and heard:

“… the most intensely beautiful music you could ever imagine.” (Steve Roach)

As a result of this experience he decided “to dedicate my life to re-creating the exact same sound.” The result is a record entitled “Structures from Silence.” Says Roach:

“Many people contact me after hearing my recordings to tell me that they’ve heard the exact same music during their NDEs.” (Steve Roach)

Such NDE revelations show the great importance music plays in the universe, in the spirit realms, in our souls and the divine. Lynnclaire’s NDE resulted in a wonderful and rare ability to see sound which she expresses in her art.

Some of the insights from NDEs concerning this heavenly music include:

  1. In the spirit realm, gardens sing and colors can be heard. It is a realm where light and sound, color and geometrical patterns are all combined into a totality of harmonic perfection.
  2. The music heard in NDEs is on a level beyond hearing. It comes from within the very core of your soul. It is like living on a universal wave length which envelops you totally.
  3. Other descriptions of this heavenly music include: unearthly harmonic beauty, angelic, sublimely beautiful, exquisite harmonies, heavenly, a celestial choir of angels, an orchestra of voices, hymns sung to God, mystical tones, harmonic perfection, music transcending all thought, bells and wind chimes, glorious tones and rhythms and melodies, music that is experienced from within, and music that puts Bach to shame.

e. Lynnclaire’s Homecoming Experience

Many NDEs such as Lynnclaire’s include a “homecoming” where the experiencer realizes their true home was not on Earth, but in the spirit realm along with deceased family and loved ones who immediately greet them. After death, most people are immediately greeted by a loved one(s) to understand what has happened. This “homecoming” is like a big celebration – similar to a surprise birthday party – heralding your arrival. Lynnclaire was immediately greeted by her beloved grandmother and then by the rest of her loved ones on the Other Side. She described her homecoming this way:

“Unspeakable joy filled my heart when I saw my paternal grandmother walking down the mountain. She approached me and enveloped me with open arms. The last time I had seen her was the summer of 1963. For more than twenty years I carried an inconsolable grief in my heart because I never got to say good-bye. Now we were together again in a magical place where time held no meaning.” (Lynnclaire Dennis)

Later on in her NDE, Lynnclaire described how she closed her eyes and wondered, “Am I home? Or am I going home?”

Another experiencer, Barbara Springer, described her homecoming this way:

“I can’t find words to explain how I felt. The amount of joy I felt. The amount of love I knew I was being given. I felt as if I had come home. I knew this is where I actually belonged. Even though I love Earth and I love living here. But when I was encountered by that being, I knew I had come home.” (Barbara Springer)

Another experiencer, Arthur Yensen, put it this way:

“Then I noticed that the landscape was gradually becoming familiar. It seemed as if I had been here before. I remembered what was on the other side of the mountains. Then with a sudden burst of joy, I realized that this was my real home! Back on Earth I had been a visitor, a misfit, and a homesick stranger. With a sigh of relief, I said to myself, ‘Thank God I’m back again. This time I’ll stay!'” (Arthur Yensen)

Another experiencer, Barbara Marie, described it this way:

“And then there was a period of being embraced by this love and peace and serenity and knowing I had reached my final destination, that this was truly a home. It gave new meaning to the word ‘home.'” (Barbara Marie)

Barbara Marie realized this was where she actually belonged and where she wanted to be forever.

f. Lynnclaire’s Experience with the Circle of Twelve Elders

After her NDE, Lynnclaire had recurring dreams of The Pattern where she was able to bring more subconscious memories of The Pattern’s geometric structure into her conscious awareness. The Pattern consists of twelve pieces surrounded by an unbroken line creating seven bridges within it. The mathematical name for this structure is a Fourier Trefoil Knot. There is an interesting connection between this twelve-piece Pattern and the so-called “Council of Twelve Elders” – a group of enlightened beings appearing frequently in NDEs whose primary purpose is to evaluate the experiencer’s mission in life. Along with having recurring dreams of the Pattern, Lynnclaire also had recurring dreams of a “Circle of Twelve Elders” one of whom is Asian and who’s “avatar” is currently living on Earth. In 1996, Lynnclaire visited China at the invitation of a scientist named Steve Bryson and within hours of arriving there, she was introduced to a man whom she recognized as the Asian elder. As a result, Lynnclaire worked with The Gorbachev Foundation and found doors opening to diplomatic circles in many countries. Lynnclaire views the process behind The Pattern as being a potentially powerful tool for negotiations. Perhaps the Council of Elders from Lynnclaire’s NDE are giving humanity the proof we need to understand how we are connected religiously, culturally, politically and metaphysically. As human beings, we are all one and the same.

Dr. Michael Newton‘s ground-breaking research using hypnotic regression to guide people into past-life memories led him to the discovery of memories of experiences in out-of-body dimensions between Earth lives. After performing a great multitude of regressions, Newton realized there existed an important process after death where people appear before a Council of Elders:

“After souls arrive back into their soul groups, they are summoned to appear before a Council of Elders. While the Council is not prosecutorial, they do engage in direct examination of a soul’s activities before returning them to their groups. Upon returning to Earth, one of the last requirements before embarkation for many souls is to go before the Council of Elders for the second time. The spirit world is an environment personified by order and the Elders want to reinforce the significance of a soul’s goals for the next life. Some return to their spirit group after this meeting to say goodbye while others say they leave immediately for reincarnation. Those souls getting ready for embarkation to Earth are like battle-hardened veterans girding themselves for combat. This is the last chance for souls to enjoy the omniscience of knowing just who they are before they must adapt to a new body.” (Dr. Michael Newton)

Dannion Brinkley had an NDE where he was led to a heavenly cathedral by a Being of Light. There he met twelve more Beings of Light each of whom represented one sign of the zodiac:

“I was able to count the beings as they stood behind the podium. There were thirteen of them, standing shoulder to shoulder and stretched across the stage. I was aware of other things about them, too, probably through some form of telepathy. Each one of them represented a different emotional and psychological characteristic that all humans have. For example, one of these beings was intense and passionate, while another was artistic and emotional. One was bold and energetic, yet another possessive and loyal. In human terms, it was as though each one represented a different sign of the zodiac. In spiritual terms, these beings went far beyond the signs of the zodiac. They emanated these emotions in such a way that I could feel them.” (Dannion Brinkley)

Other experiencers have referred to this group of higher beings by other names as well such as: “a council of men,” or “council”, or “Elders”, or something similar. This council of twelve has also been identified to be the twelve apostles of Christ.

g. The Important Role The Pattern May Play in the Future

Visions of the future, as revealed in many NDEs, are practically unanimous in describing a coming “Golden Age” on Earth which result from near-death experiencers such as Lynnclaire bringing heavenly information to Earth. The general consensus from NDE revelations is the Earth will eventually be filled with people who have evolved spirituality in the same way other enlightened beings have, such as: Christ, Buddha, Krishna, Muhammad, etc. It will also be a world with surprisingly little technology; and where humanity has developed “superhuman” or supernatural abilities. For example, humanity has been foreseen to evolve to a point where groups of people praying together will be able to control the climate. Children have been foreseen to be the most precious commodity in the world; and raising children has been foreseen to be the highest priority of the human race. It will be a future where greater understanding of the afterlife will common knowledge; and wisdom will be more important than science. According to one NDE experiencer who was shown the future, Howard Storm, it will be:

“… a euphoric future without anxiety, hatred, and competition” and where everyone will have “enormous trust and mutual respect” for others. (Howard Storm)

Lynnclaire’s extraordinary NDE and her bringing The Pattern into this world is already playing an important role in humanity. As an example, in my opinion, Lynnclaire’s educational program for children, called BeLonging, will be the perfect system to educate children because it is based upon principles discovered in The Pattern. Lynnclaire, her NDE and The Pattern is proving to be an important catalyst for humans to mature spiritually enough to assume a higher place in God’s universe.
